A late summer village day in rural England — antique hunting, wildflowers, and sourdough bagels made from scratch back at the cottage.

We spent the morning out in the village — browsing antique shops, finding a few beautiful old things, picking up wildflowers — before coming home to a starter that was ready and waiting. The bagels didn't turn out quite as planned (long-fermented sourdough with a last-minute spelt substitution and a very enthusiastic little helper), but they were eaten, and that's what counts. A slow, ordinary, lovely kind of late summer day.
