'Delaney Hall will shut down': Hakeem Jeffries condemns ICE detention conditions, demands shutdown

House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries joined New Jersey lawmakers, community leaders and families affected by immigration detention to demand accountability for conditions at Delaney Hall.

Jeffries condemned the alleged inadequate medical care, unsanitary living conditions and deaths in ICE custody, arguing that immigration enforcement must be “fair, just and humane.” He called for Delaney Hall to be shut down, private detention facilities to be held accountable and Congress to pursue comprehensive immigration reform.

Jeffries also addressed due process for immigrants that are set to be deported and pathways to citizenship for undocumented immigrants that are active members of their community.
