In this video, we start at the very beginning: defining project requirements. From there, we walk through how to read a P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagram) or a mechanical motion schematic and use it to build out a controls narrative and a structured IO list. The IO list is the backbone of the entire design, and getting it right early saves you from expensive mistakes down the line.

Once the IO list is defined, we use it to generate a full bill of materials. We cover selecting the PLC and IO modules, along with the supporting components that make a panel complete: switches, HMIs, relays, terminal blocks, and circuit breakers.

We also dig into panel specifications, including NEMA and IP ratings, so you know how to spec an enclosure for the environment it will actually live in.

By the end of this video, you will understand the full workflow: defining project requirements, reading a P&ID, creating an IO list, and generating a complete bill of materials for an industrial control panel.
