ISS Timelapse - From Porto to Quy Nhơn (10 Jan 2026)

Using about 3,500 photographs taken from the International Space Station by Kimiya Yui last January 10, we created this #timelapse.

This is a nighttime flyover of the #ISS from the Iberian Peninsula to Vietnam.
The camera was pointed precisely downward so that the Earth filled the entire frame.

Despite it being nighttime, many surface details are visible thanks to the illumination of the last quarter Moon. Beyond city lights, you can spot some particularly interesting details, such as the greenhouse lights of a tomato farm in Russia, or the flashing lights placed on high-voltage pylons to improve air traffic safety. Also unmissable are the lanterns used as bait by fishing vessels in the South China Sea.

The bright static dots are the camera sensor's hot pixels (they are obviously not stars, since the sky is not in frame).

The video covers a 30 minutes time span and is therefore sped up about 8 times compared to the actual speed of the Station.
