Eric Satie, actually Alfred-Eric-Leslie Satie, was considered a very humorous showman. He was a friend of Claude Debussy. His often tragic humour may have come from the fact that he never reached his friend's skill in composition, and so his humour seems like that of an extremely lonely person whose critical spirit he turned against himself.
