Hello, this is Ling Chi, brush painting for beginners from Oriental Art Supply.
We are continuing this month's theme for our virtual office hour, which is line and shape.
Today we're going to do a bird from A Hundred Birds by Ou Hsien. If you like to do birds,
this is a Ling Nine style birds that have every kind of birds you can think of.
And I'm going to use our practice shuan, and the color is the chip color I have had
since my last demo. So I have chunk yellow, indigo and yellow make a green,
and then burnt sienna and rouge. And this is a different color. This is our
jar of stone blue. And then I have best bottle ink. I dropped one little
glue in there to hold the shape for the beak, so it will give me a clean line.
And then the brushes I have, I'm going to use my Biff brush for the trunk.
And then I have my Morning Glory. This is a beautiful line brush and has very sharp tip.
And I'm going to do all the details use this. And then I have little breeze brush,
for the willow leaves. And I have two small brushes here for the
body of the bird. And one is happy tail, one is pre-happy dot. If you only have one,
you just have to wash your brush more often than I do. But I have two, so I don't have to
constantly wash it. So now everything is ready. So I'm going to start with the intense ink,
with some glue on the tip. So I have some yellow on my brush. I'm going to clean it up.
So the glue will hold the beak of the
bird clean line. So I will do the middle. So this is the beak.
And then the eyes is pretty close to the beak. And then I'm going to use the pre-happy dot
for the blue feather on the top of the head. So this is my stone blue. And then pretty much
this will shape the bird's face. So the stone blue underneath the eyes. And then
I'm going to use the happy tail for the body of the bird. You can wash your brush
for the pre-happy dot brush. So I'm using the burnt sienna from the chip and tip a little bit
with the ink. So now I'm going to follow this blue head and make into a shape of the body.
And then I'm rinsing the tip off and use the yellow. You can see I'm using
the shape with a stroke. And then I'm using the line to finish the body of the bird. So then
using the clean my brush and use dark ink. So I'm going to do my tail. And then
I'm going to start finishing up the shape with the line for the for the bird. So you can see
my bird is in good shape now. So then I'm going to rinse my happy tail brush. Okay I'm going to use
the morning glory brush for the leg. So this is the rouge from the chip. This back leg and then
the front leg. So you can see my beautiful bird is in shape. All right and then now I'm going back
with my fifth brush. So I'm going to use the bamboo technique. I'm loading the brush with
burnt sienna and then I'm going to load the ink on both sides. And then I start. Okay so
so this finish the trunk of the bird is sitting up. So then I'm going to use my little breeze brush
to do the willow. So I load a little bit yellow green that which is indigo mixed with
chunk yellow and then tap a little bit yellow. So we'll be having this kind of orchid like.
So a small and a big leaf. A small leaf and then on this side going to have.
So I'm going back on my morning glory brush. If you don't have that brush check it out. It's a
beautiful smooth line brush. So I'm having a little bit burnt sienna a little bit yellow and
a little bit ink to do the line. So if you want to buy a new brush this is a definitely a brush
to consider. All right and then on this side we're going to have some. We're going to start
with the line first. Now I'm going back on my little breeze brush on the drawer side.
And then at the end I'm going to use a little breeze brush to have some happy dot on the trunk.
That finished my bird with willow and the trunk. Happy painting. We'll see you next time.
