Video Summary
AI GeneratedActor Tom Holland visited River East Elementary School to teach second graders the art of superhero stunts and donate new sports equipment. Through a hands-on workshop and a green-screen film project, he emphasized safety and diverse forms of expression, while providing the school with essential play gear to revitalize their playground experience.
This is Tom Holland, talented actor, green flag, and literal web slinger.
Today we're at River East Elementary School, where Tom's teaching a second grade class
all about superhero stunts.
And to make sure Tom's lessons really stick, our crew has curated a massive selection of
sports gear from Amazon to keep these busy bodies moving every day.
I'm your host Julian, and this is Celebrity Substitute.
Tom, welcome back to elementary school.
I failed elementary school.
You're joking.
I'm joking.
Tom, what are you teaching today?
Today I'm going to teach the kids about the art of stunts.
How fast are your reflexes?
Pretty fast.
Wait.
That was, uh.
You want to do that again?
No.
No?
Okay.
Wow.
That was so embarrassing.
Was that real?
I looked straight down the barrel when I did that too.
What do you think kids can learn from stunts?
Stunts are an amazing way to express yourself because it's all about making something look
dangerous while it being absolutely safe.
Kids all operate in so many different ways, which is why I kind of think like standardized
testing is a really silly way to grade kids on performance because there are some kids
that struggle in those environments and there are some kids that excel in those environments.
So I think if you can find a way to allow them to express themselves, not just in the
way that they work in the classroom, then you're giving them more opportunity to succeed
in other ways.
You never know what is going to spark their interest.
Yeah, exactly.
Who knows?
Maybe you will inspire a kid today to be a stunt double.
Who knows?
Which would be awesome.
What are you most nervous about for today?
Sometimes I think that little kids don't think that I'm cool.
Are you joking?
No, but hear me out though.
You're Spider-Man.
Anyway, are you good with kids, Tom?
I am very good with kids.
Do you think they think you're actually Spider-Man?
That is an interesting question and it depends on the age and sometimes I am more of a disappointment
to young kids because they actually believe I'm Spider-Man and I can't deliver on that
promise.
What do you want to say to the kids who think you're really Spider-Man?
I'm doing my best, man.
I try really hard and I'm sorry.
Were you a good student?
I was.
I was a hard-working student, but I don't know if that necessarily translates to a good
student.
Did you get good grades?
I got fine grades.
Did you ever fail a test?
Oh yeah.
Proud of that?
I was really dyslexic.
So I found spelling very difficult.
Did your dyslexia go away?
No.
Oh wow.
I want to talk about what you were like when you were a kid.
A lot of energy.
My mom said that when I was a baby, I would never let anyone hold me with my back turned
to the world.
I always had to be held out front.
I had to be looking out.
Like a member of the mafia.
Exactly.
So no one could get a hit on you.
I didn't know that reference, but exactly.
That is before I learned the double Windsor.
That is a clip-on or elasticated tie that is very loose.
Can I tell you what we're doing for the kids today?
Tell me.
River East prides themselves on all the different extracurriculars they offer their students,
but sadly their playground was recently demolished.
Right now, the school relies on an empty city-owned field, which means there are no permanent
play structures or equipment for the kids to stay active.
But while you're teaching your lesson, our crew will be assembling sports gear, indoor
and outdoor games, and an easy-to-access storage system all from Amazon.
The goal is to give the school everything they need to create more space for play, imagination,
and fun.
I love that.
Tom, are you ready to become Mr. Tom?
I'm actually really gassed about this name tag.
Mr. Tom.
Are you ready to meet the kids?
I am so ready.
Tom may be Spider-Man, but does he have what it takes to be Substitute Teacher Man?
Okay, Tom, your two hours start now.
Kids, come on in.
Hey.
What up?
What's up, guys?
How's it going?
Good.
My name is Mr. Tom.
I am here to teach you guys about stunts.
You have a question?
Did you ever get punched before?
Uh, yeah, I have been punched before, and I can tell you from experience, it is not
very nice.
Can you do a ballerina spin?
Uh, yes.
Do you think you could do one?
Do you want to show me?
Do you want to do it together?
Okay.
You go first.
Wow.
I don't know if I can do it that good, though.
Do you reckon you could do it with a little jump?
Yeah.
Whoa.
That's called an attitude promenade.
That's really difficult, what you just did there.
Great work.
I love it.
Can you do like a, um...
Whoa.
Wow.
Meet Amir.
He knows his stunts.
I taught myself some stunts.
Well, all.
Did you just do that naturally, or are you secretly Spider-Man?
I don't know if I can still do handstands.
Oh, no.
Oh, whoa.
My God.
Oh, my God.
Careful.
Ow.
Yowie.
Oh, my God.
It's okay.
Thank you, Amir.
What is going to happen in Spider-Man Brand New Day?
I think you are going to see things that you've never seen before in a Spider-Man movie.
Moses, you got a question?
If Tobey Maguire is going to be in the new movie?
Tobey Maguire is not in the new movie.
Okay.
But, yeah.
Yeah.
Careful, Tom.
Careful now.
Are you a good actor?
I don't think so.
Really?
Moses, that's a mean thing to say.
Well, he spoils everything.
Yeah.
Which is true.
You've been called out on this before.
Yeah, I guess so.
Next question.
Are you take Isaiah to a date?
Yeah, all the time.
My favorite thing to do.
Are you married?
That is a very important question, and you guys obviously haven't been media trained
like the publicists that I speak with.
This is Victor, and he's never heard of a publicist.
He's definitely married.
I don't know why he avoided my question.
Can you do a backflip?
I can do a backflip, but the truth of the matter is that this ceiling is not tall enough.
I have a good idea.
Mr. Tom.
Yes.
You're going to do a backflip, but they all have to close their eyes.
How's that sound?
That's a great idea.
Everybody close your eyes.
Three, two, one.
Whoa!
Okay, everybody open your eyes.
I know you didn't do that.
That was a jump.
You don't believe me?
I was doing this.
I just did this, and then he just did jump.
I caught him red-handed.
Are we going to be safe?
Yes!
Are you ready to start the lesson?
Yes!
Okay, lesson plan part one.
I want to see how much you were listening.
What am I here to teach you today?
Stunts!
Okay, what is the most important rule about stunts?
The most important rule about doing stunts is?
Safety.
Let's just shout safety.
Safety!
Let's go.
Okay, so stunts are a really important part of storytelling.
I'm lucky enough to make really big action movies,
and action movies require huge set pieces, is what we call them.
And in those set pieces, we have to rehearse the stunts,
perform the stunts, and again, what is rule number one?
Being safe!
Being safe.
It's important to know that there are some actors that do their stunts,
like Tom Cruise does all of his own stunts.
Do you guys know who Tom Cruise is?
No.
I don't know who Tom Cruise is.
That would crush him, but I love that.
There are other actors, like myself, who do some of my stunts,
but I have a team of people that I work with who are super talented athletes
that do all of the really, really difficult, dangerous stunts.
But today we're going to teach you the stunt form.
Okay, okay.
You're going to look behind you,
but the trick is to make that look behind you look natural.
I'm going to look behind me like this.
Whoa!
Take a step back, and then I'm going to fall down this way
and hit the floor.
You want to make it sound really impressive.
You bounce your hands off the floor.
And that is your stunt form.
Our supervillain today has the power to blow the air
incredibly fast and incredibly strong.
So I'm going to do it to Mr. Julian.
Ready?
Yeah.
Wow!
What did Mr. Julian miss?
What did he not do?
What did I not do?
You did not look.
That's exactly right, Jacob.
Let's do it again, Mr. Julian.
Oh, no!
And this time, get it right.
Here we go.
3, 2, 1.
There we go!
Safety first!
Your name is Victor, right?
What we're going to do is we're going to do a rehearsal.
It's called shadowing.
And that means I'm going to do it in front of you,
and you're going to try and copy me step for step, okay?
I haven't done a stunt, but I have jumped rope.
So we're going to stand this way because we're falling that way.
We're going to look over our left shoulder, this one.
You're going to look this way, and your arms are going to go up like this,
as if you're being blown by the wind.
Then you're going to take a step back with your left leg,
and we're shadowing.
And we're going to slowly fall down.
Left hand touches the floor.
Left cheek.
And then what do we do with our hands?
There we go!
Okay.
Nice!
Okay, now let me try and do it with the action.
Ready?
Whoa!
You look behind you.
Put your left foot behind you.
Then you slowly go down.
You can do it.
He's a good teacher because he taught me how to be safe,
and he taught me how to fake fall.
Okay, are you ready?
Do you want to rehearse it one more time,
or do you want to go straight into the action?
Rehearse.
Let's rehearse it together.
Here we go.
Left shoulder.
Left leg.
Left hand.
And we're falling.
And what do we do with our hands?
There we go!
Okay, I think you're ready.
Whoa!
I was feeling shy, but I did it.
Now that we have learned the importance of safety,
it is time to get into character.
We're going to shoot our very own superhero movie,
and you guys are the heroes,
and I am the damsel.
And I'm the evil supervillain.
Rah!
Kids, are you ready?
Let's do it!
Every superhero needs a cape.
Thanks to Amazon, we've got that covered.
Now we're ready to film our stunts.
In the plant at home base. Hurry.
Our movie finds Mr. Tom as Superguy,
trapped in evil Dr. Disaster's lair.
In order to save humanity from never ever having fun again,
he calls in the Superkids,
who have to crawl, run, burst through bricks,
and fly over New York City before the time runs out.
And now Tom has to teach them how to be professional stunt actors.
So, we're on a green screen,
which means we can make the backdrop be anything we want it to be ever.
Here we go, guys.
Three, two, one, go!
Really fast. Really fast.
Whoa!
And pause.
Well done. Great work, great work, great work, great work.
Superkids, are you there?
I'm in trouble. I've been kidnapped by Dr. Disaster.
There's nothing you can do.
Buckle Rooney. Buckle Bozo.
Is that really how you want to play the scene?
Are you sure?
I think that's the best take on this one.
You don't think he's doing a little too much?
No, Tom, come on.
I did it, like, authentic.
Like, I was trying to be, like, natural.
I'll do more emotional. You ready?
You want to do more emotional?
Let's take it from the top.
No time for chit-chat.
Take this to Superguy.
We can take the show cuts.
It felt awesome.
I was a little bit scared, but I said, nah.
You're going to save me, bro.
You're going to untie me.
Superkids, save the day!
No, no.
I'm free.
And Superkids!
Wow, so good.
You guys nailed it.
I'm going to teach you how to fly.
Are you ready?
Yeah.
You take your strongest leg forward.
You put your weakest leg backwards.
And you fly like this.
And then you look forwards where you're going.
Whoa!
Wow, that looks so good.
And when we land, we go like this.
Whoa!
One more time. Take two.
Action.
Excellent.
And land.
Whoa!
All right, Tom, your time is up.
High fives all around.
Thank you.
Thank you for being so fun.
You guys nailed it.
Now that we've safely filmed our stunts,
it's time to see how dangerous they look on the big screen.
Rats!
Superkids, can you hear me?
I've been compromised.
Doctor Disaster kidnapped me
and destroyed the antivirus chip
that could prevent his brainwashing radio waves.
In three minutes, everybody will be blasted in the brain,
which means every person on planet Earth
will never have fun ever again.
I need you to find the backup.
It is in the tree at home base.
The way we're on it.
This is your most important mission yet.
Superkids, go!
What was that?
Uh, nothing.
It's all over, Superguy, and there's nothing you can do.
The radio wave will be blasted out in three minutes.
At this point, more like two minutes and 53 seconds,
or 52 seconds, 51, 50.
Tick-tock goes the clock.
DJ, turn the speaker up.
Get the backup.
The radio wave must be locked into place.
If we can just make it to the door.
Go, you're our only hope.
Oh, hey, guys, what's up?
No time for chit-chat.
Take this to Superguy.
But that'll take ten minutes.
We can take the shortcuts.
Good luck, guys, I believe in you.
Let's do this.
We'll take this from here.
Let's do this.
I can't believe the building that I saw in front of the Empire State Building.
Who approved this?
It's tragic.
Oh, time's almost up, Superguy.
We've reached the end of the line.
Not if we have anything to do with it.
Oh, Superkids, save the day.
No.
Whoa!
No!
Superkids, you did it.
Where's the chip?
I got it.
Quickly, go and plug it in.
I'm free.
Superkids hatchet.
Get in here, Benjamin.
Superkids!
Yeah!
That was awesome.
I saved Tom Holland's life today.
I was also a good actor because I did this.
It looks like I actually did it, but I'm just really just doing this.
Even though I don't got no superpowers, I'm pretty convincing.
Thank you so much for having us at your school today.
Principal Panetta, Ms. Lacey, are you ready to see your brand new recess gear?
Yes.
All right, let's take a look.
Look at all of your new toys.
Get stuck in, get stuck in.
How cool is this?
I mean, this is just amazing because for the longest time,
our kids have played in a completely empty field,
and now they have all this equipment to bring outside and play with.
You have more opportunity for creativity and collaboration and playing and joy,
so thank you so much.
All right, everybody, let's take a group picture.
Daisy!
Thank you to River East Elementary School for having us
and to Tom for being such a superhero celebrity substitute.
All right, that's the end of our episode.
Don't forget to like and subscribe, and we'll see you in the next one.
Safety first.
You kids more than any other kids we've worked with.
I don't think I've ever seen more laces ever untied.
Thanks, dude.
We're real friends.
A little bit more, yeah.
I got your hair.
Maybe Mr. Tom can teach me how to do a backflip.
I did a backflip in pre-K on a swing,
and I hurt my back, and I can't do it anymore.
