Our first day in Taiwan didn't go according to plan...

After an overnight flight, we arrived in Taipei tired but excited to begin exploring. We bought EasyCards, caught the Airport MRT and made our way into the city, expecting our first meal to be one of Taipei's famous beef noodle restaurants.

Instead, we accidentally wandered into a traditional neighbourhood day market.

That unexpected detour became one of the highlights of our entire trip.

We spent hours exploring local streets, meeting friendly vendors and trying foods we'd never eaten before, including pork lung, pork trachea, soy-braised pork intestine and freshly prepared noodle soup. The rain made everything feel even more authentic.

Later in the day we visited Taipei 101, only to discover that the weather had completely hidden the skyline. Rather than forcing the plan, we continued exploring the city before visiting a beautiful temple beside Raohe Night Market, where we watched Taiwanese opera, people praying and traditional rituals before finishing the evening with one of Taipei's most famous food markets.

Sometimes the best travel experiences aren't the ones you plan.
