A Sophie Cunningham rally was held outside Climate Pledge Arena during a game between the Seattle Storm and Indiana Fever. People attending the rally wore pro women's sports shirts, prompting some backlash. Two 16-year-old girls were berated by a woman, reducing one of them to tears. This woman was later revealed to be Celeste Keaton, the co-owner of the Seattle Storm.
JK Rowling spoke up in defense of the girls, and later Sophie Cunningham herself defended them and even called out Keaton. There were other incidents during the match where people who attended the rally were targeted by Storm fans and trans activists.
