A compact two-story home with a total floor area of 957 sq ft (88.92 m²).

Across both floors, there are only seven exterior openings—and one of them is the front door, leaving just six actual windows. Even the largest window measures only about 5.6 ft (1.7 m) square, modest compared with the large main windows commonly found in contemporary homes.

The limited number of windows was intentional. The homeowners wanted an exterior with fewer visible openings, giving the building a character unlike that of a conventional house.

Rather than filling every room with uniform brightness, the design creates a sequence of sunlit areas and calm, shadowed spaces. These shifts between light and darkness bring depth, atmosphere, and a sense of narrative as you move through the home.

Split levels and a double-height void draw the eye upward and deeper into the interior, making this compact house feel varied and expansive. A mudroom-style family entrance offers generous storage for surfing and camping gear, along with enough space for a desk, allowing it to double as a small home office.

Because the house is small, every change in light, ceiling height, and depth becomes part of the experience.
