Cal in Contention for JUCO Standout Alius Mayo

Cal seems to be running slightly behind Alabama in the hunt to get a commitment from Elias Mayo from Modesto Junior College. He is considered the number one 2027 junior college prospect in the country and certainly that would be a feather in Tosh Lupoi's cap if they were able to get a commitment from him and sign him. It seems like Alabama and Cal are the leading candidates to get although Alabama seems to have the lead on Cal in that respect. He's making his announcement on August 2nd so Cal still has a few more days to try to convince him to come to Cal. A junior college prospect is obviously different from a high school prospect in that you expect a junior college prospect to help you immediately. So if he would sign with Cal, Cal would hope that he could be a starting cornerback in the 2027 season next year. So that's an important distinction between a high school player and a junior college prospect.
