Durant Drops MAJOR Details on Joining Rockets…
Jul 26, 2026
Kevin Durant has been traded to the Houston Rockets and this blockbuster trade has got
the NBA world talking and Kevin Durant himself has just dropped some major details about his
arrival to the Rockets next season and what he's feeling right now. We're gonna break that
down for you right here on this video for Rockets Digest. Hello everybody, I am your host
Donovan Recondo and like Jay said earlier today, if you are a Houston Rockets fan,
you must be subscribed to this channel. We are covering all the latest breaking news regarding
the Houston Rockets, all the latest updates right here on this channel, so go ahead and hit that
subscribe button below. But let's get to the news that you have heard today about Kevin Durant
becoming a Houston Rocket. This blockbuster trade was announced earlier today and it's got the
entire world talking. Many people have been reacting accordingly because this is very,
very big news and Kevin Durant found out this information while at Fanatic's Fest earlier today
during his interview with Taylor Rooks and it is insane that this has all happened so very, very
so quickly but also that a long time it took for us to get to this point. So we're going to break
down what Kevin Durant said within finding out that he will become a Houston Rocket. Did he know
about it before going on stage? What was all that? We're going to break it down for you right here,
right now. First quote that we are going to get to is whenever he first found out, of course,
the fans went crazy and Taylor Rooks asked him, you know, what do you think? How do you feel about
becoming a Houston Rocket? He didn't really go into details alive on stage. He just said,
we're gonna see, man. We're gonna see what happens, man. We're gonna see. And so he's, you know, not
giving a lot there in that aspect but at the same time, you know, had a huge smile on his face. You
can tell that he wants to be in Houston. He's happy that this deal has been made. It's not
yet finalized as we would have to wait until the July 6th date for all these straights to be
finalized but you can tell that he is simply happy to be a Houston Rocket. Even joking around with
Taylor Rooks just moments after, right, when she asked him, what is a song you have to listen to
on game day? And one of those songs was Raining in Houston by Drex. So you can see KD having some
fun there. Having a good time because he is going to a very solid team next season. He's coming to
us, the Houston Rockets. We've got a young core. We've kept Aparajan Shangoon. We've kept Amin
Thompson. Jabari Smith Jr. is still on the team as well. Lots to be excited about if you are Houston
Rockets fan and adding one of the best scorers in NBA history is just one of the best things you
can ask for in terms of the offseason. And just in a second, I'll get to my final opinion on this trade
at the end of this video but let's see or dive deeper into Kevin Durant's reaction. What did
he say? Didn't say much on stage. Just kind of made some friendly giggles and comments up there
but then he had an interview with Kay Adams after the fact and discussed, you know, the news of him
coming to Houston. One of the first things he said about our organization is that, quote,
being a part of the Houston Rockets, I'm looking forward to it crazy, crazy last couple of weeks
but I'm glad it's over with. And that's just a testament to how extraneous this process has
been for him, you know, having requested, not requested a trade at the trade deadline last
season but, you know, Phoenix seeking a trade which caught him off guard and then after that,
him wanting to get out of there, out of Phoenix and then no deal was made at the trade deadline.
No deal was made towards, you know, in this offseason so far. We've heard a bunch of rumors,
a lot of things circulating and so now a deal is done. I'm sure that stress, that load has been
carried off of his back and now he's just focused on Houston and all the great things that he can do
on this team next season. He gave even more of his thoughts about joining Houston and, you know,
he was confirmed his trade preferences in that interview with Kay Adams saying, quote, they asked
me where I want to go. So some of my destinations I gave to them and here we are and here we are
indeed, right. Houston is going to receive one of the best scores in the NBA's history and he was
asked, did he know that this was going to happen today? When he went on stage, did they know they
were going to break the news while he was out there? Kevin Durant had this to say, I know it's
a question a lot of y'all have had, saying, quote, I had an idea, but I didn't know exactly when it
was going to happen. I'm glad we kind of did this on stage. It worked out and worked out a day. We
saw all those first hand reactions from those fans there at Fanatics Fest, a lot of cheers from the
KD fans and a lot of boos from, you know, teams that are fans of teams that, you know, just are
jealous of what has transpired or just, you know, mixed reactions for the crowd there. And of course,
there's probably mixed reactions across Houston Rockets nation for whether or not this is a trade
that was worth for, you know, Jalen Green, Dylan Brooks on their way out saying goodbye to the 10th
overall pick, which was expected, right. The 10th overall pick was most likely going to be traded
regardless of whether or not we did the deal with the Phoenix Suns before the draft. And also those
five second rounders as well also, you know, no longer with us. Pros and cons, right, pros and cons.
And so it's very interesting trade for sure. Some are, you know, saying that it is an absolute steal
and, you know, there are some people that had hard opinions on Jalen Green and him
not being able to compete in the playoffs and perform the level that he should have.
We've swapped him with now one of the greatest scorers of all time. And so it's very, very
interesting to see all of these different factors result into this, right? Result to a fanatic
fest on stage presence by Kevin Durant and for him to react this way. And so he's, you know,
broke some more stuff down about all this stuff and saying, quote, you know, when people can just
hang your career in the balance like and just choose what they want to do with your career is
nerve-wracking feeling. But being able to kind of dictate what you want to do and being with
the team that values you, I'm looking forward to it. And at the end of the day, that is all you can
really ask for in a player, right? For KD to say, hey, I want to be in Houston, you know, listing
them as one of his trade preferences and, you know, finding the news that he has been traded there
and that he is happy. He is looking forward to it. He has complimented Coach Emil Doka and his
presence as a head coach. He knows that the Houston Rockets have a great young core that he can
be a great addition to. He's excited to be here at the very, very least. That's something you
want any superstar player to feel when they are playing for that team in your city, right? You
see that with Giannis, right? You see that with Tyrese Halliburton, with the Indiana Pacers.
You need to have that star who is happy to be there and wants to be there and to have a guy
like KD who wants to be in Houston and is a good sign to have, is a great thing to have if you are
KD. And there are so much of big things to come. And to give you a little bit further insight
into that is the fact that, you know, this video was taken with Kevin Durant and his business
partner, Rich Kleinman. This was shortly after finding out that a deal was about to take place.
They're dabbing up here, both very, very excited that this deal has been made. And so, it just
goes to show you that Kevin Durant is happy to be a Houston Rocket and is glad that a deal can be
made and that he can compete for a championship next season. Because make no mistake about it,
he has three years left, probably going to sign that contract extension. We'll update you guys
on what that extension looks like. But he's here to win a championship. He absolutely
wants to end his career with a championship. And if he could do that in Houston, the state
where he went to college, it could mean the world to him, right? It could make him a three-time NBA
champion. And you can just, it's great as a Rockets fan to see one of these fantastic players
of our generation, of all time, be excited to come to our team. And it's very, very exciting.
It's a great thing, especially when you consider the fact that KD is one of the best players in
the NBA today. Yes, he's going to be 37 years old next season. But last year, averaging 26 points
per game, six rebounds, four assists, shooting 52% from the field. And I saw a stat today that
quite frankly just blew my mind. Since 2011, KD has never shot below, I believe it was like 50%,
which is, my goodness, insane. And so to put up these numbers and be so consistent
is great for him as a player. Now, in terms of my thoughts of this trade,
there's a lot of factors, a lot of that we gave up for Kevin Durant, right? And to be honest,
I do think in terms of dictating who won this trade, who lost this trade, I don't know.
Mainly because I don't think anybody will for sure know who won or lost this trade
until Kevin Durant's time is up with the Houston Rockets. After three years, we'll know for sure
who more or less won this trade. With some trades, you can kind of say, you can kind of be like,
okay, this team clearly won. There's no, like that was just an offer by that front office.
But with this one, it's so, it's so determinant on the time span of what happens in these three
years. But for example, right, when the Raptors traded for Kawhi Leonard that one year, right,
in 2018 for the 2018-2019 season, that on paper at first hand was not a smart trade,
was not the best thing to do. But of course, that was made up for when Kawhi led that team
to a championship. And I feel like we're kind of on that same boat right now. KD,
great player, great to have him, great to welcome him to the Houston Rockets.
But to determine whether or not this was worth giving up, you know, a role player,
culture player like Dylan Brooks, a young, talented offensive scorer like Jalen Green,
of course, the 10th overall pick, whoever that may end up being for Phoenix. And of course,
those few, those fifth round, or those second, those five second round picks,
it's all going to determine on that. And I feel like you can get a better grasp of it
but Warren's KD's tenure in Houston is better. You know, this could work out because you're
looking at a great starting five, a starting five of Jabari Smith, Jr., Kevin Durant,
Fred VanVleet, Alperen Shen, Gunnar Ahmen, Thompson. That is a fantastic starting five.
And so, and you got Steven Adams coming off the bench, re-signing him. You got Torrey Eason
coming off the bench. It's looking good for the Rockets, right? It really is. But I do think
time will tell with who we actually won this trade. As great as it is to have KD,
there's a lot of different factors that one must consider in terms of all that kind of stuff.
Because I do believe Jalen Green will go on and have a very successful career.
Dylan Brooks will be continuing to do what he does best, which is a 3 and D kind of guy,
and be that culture guy for the Phoenix Suns. So, it's going to be interesting to see how the
Rockets adapt. Now, there's going to be a lot more moves coming to try to fill out this roster.
You bet that we are going to go and get some shooters to add to this lineup. That is something
we still need. Yes, adding KD does that. But also, you got to have some other young guys out there,
young shooters who can get the job done. Veteran shooters as well. But it's very interesting to
see what the Rockets are doing. It's going to be a very telling season. And we shall see what
happens with this trade. Now, if you think otherwise, if you think we for sure won this
trade, let me know in the comments. Let me know what you think. If you ask me, time is going to
tell. In three years, it could be next year, it could be the year after. If the Rockets win a
championship right off the bat, worth it. Absolutely worth it. But you tell me, are we
a contender? Yes, we are a contender. But are we a favorite? Do you think we are still lacking
behind other teams? Let me know in the comments section. I am happy to find out what you guys
think about this trade. It's great to be a Rockets fan. And this is big. This is a big
off-season move. And we're going to cover all of the moves right here on this channel. So,
