Inspired by the concluding chapters of 《Song of Everlasting Sorrow》 by the Tang dynasty poet Bai Juyi, this long-form traditional Chinese ambient suite follows the poem's final and most ethereal vision. Guided by a Daoist immortal, Emperor Xuanzong's longing reaches beyond mountains, seas, and clouds to the legendary isle of Penglai, where memories endure in a realm untouched by time.

Rather than retelling every scene, the music lingers on moonlit palaces, celestial gardens, drifting clouds, quiet conversations beyond the mortal world, and the enduring promise that love can outlast both kingdoms and lifetimes. The closing lines of the poem—"Though heaven and earth may one day end, this sorrow shall endure forever"—become not a lament, but a meditation on memory, devotion, and transcendence.

Featuring guqin, guzheng, xiao, dizi, pipa, konghou, sheng, bianzhong bells, together with flowing springs, mountain mist, birds at dawn, moonlit waters, distant temple bells, and gentle cloud-like ambience, this collection unfolds like the lower half of an ancient handscroll, where poetry, painting, and music dissolve into one timeless dream.
