Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps continues to make threats against the UK, declaring the possibility of striking targets associated with the American military presence on British soil.
"We warn you: any base that the Americans use to strike us will become a target," the statement said.
The UK government said its armed forces were ready to protect against any threats following warnings from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps over the use of British bases by US strategic bombers.
The British Armed Forces are constantly prepared to defend the country from any threats, both internal and external. The Speaker of Parliament noted that defense is provided 24/7 through a multi-layered air and missile defense system involving the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force, operating in close coordination with NATO allies.
The Institute for National Security Studies Information Center released its latest update on US troop deployments in the Middle East. According to published data, the US has significantly increased its military presence in the region, deploying additional aircraft, including F-35A, F-15E, and F-16 fighters. The F-16s are reportedly being used to suppress enemy air defense systems, paving the way for subsequent bomber strikes. In addition, EA-37B electronic warfare aircraft, E-11A airborne communications repeaters, E-3G AWACS airborne early warning and control aircraft, and P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft are deployed in the region.
They are supported by an increased contingent of tanker aircraft. According to INSS, B-1B strategic bombers began striking targets in Iran last night, flying from British bases. In addition, two American aircraft carriers, the USS Abraham Lincoln and the USS George HW Bush, are in the Middle East, along with over 25 other ships, including destroyers and amphibious assault ships. Each carrier carries air wings with F/A-18 and F-35C fighters.
According to US officials, special forces units are also deployed in the Middle East. At the same time, the air force presence of European countries, including the UK, has been strengthened.
It is expected that British aircraft may be used to evacuate their citizens from the region if necessary. The Financial Times reports that US administration under Donald Trump has once again returned to discussing a radical regime change scenario in Iran. Washington was prompted to take this step by the complete failure of previous diplomatic attempts to resolve the conflict peacefully. According to an influential publication, key elements of the American leadership have revived so-called "Plan A." This strategy entails a massive increase in economic pressure on Tehran to provoke an acute domestic crisis.
The plan calls for strict restrictions on Iranian oil exports to the global market. Furthermore, Washington is seeking loyal members of the Iranian elite willing to cooperate directly with the US and Israel.
The possible arming of Kurdish opposition groups is being considered as one of the tools for exerting force. The goal of these measures is to undermine the Islamic Republic's financial system within a few months.
These initiatives are currently being discussed behind closed doors within the Washington administration and have not yet been approved as an official White House strategy. Meanwhile, Israeli intelligence has previously unsuccessfully attempted to establish secret contacts with former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. US military officials are expressing serious concerns about control of the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Pentagon experts believe a violent scenario and further escalation will greatly complicate free navigation in the region.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that Washington remains fundamentally open to negotiations. However, the diplomat issued a stern warning to Tehran about the inevitable high price for continuing to threaten international security.
Such a turn of events could radically alter the balance of power in the Middle East. The struggle for control of oil flows and key transport arteries is reaching a new level.
