I am joined by an interesting romance author, Lexi LaFleur Brown.
Lexi, how are you?
Hi.
I'm great.
How are you?
I'm doing good.
So thank you for taking the time to come and chat with me and fellow book lovers out there.
So for anyone that's not familiar with your romance rivalry work, tell us a little bit
about where you're from and what really sparked your interest in reading and becoming an author.
Yeah, of course.
I'm originally from Canada, which means that I grew up playing hockey.
You learn to walk and then you learn to skate up there.
So I've always had a big passion for hockey.
And then I married into this hockey life with my own, you know, hockey playing romance.
And I ended up discovering hockey romance through book talk, and really kind of fell
in love with, with the books, but also this idea that people were discovering hockey through
hockey romance and becoming fans of hockey.
And I thought that that was really special.
And I ended up just starting to write my own.
And now I have two books.
I think it's interesting that you get a front row seat, like you played hockey and then
you married into like the hockey family.
So I think that's why your book turned out so well, because you are living the life.
And so your latest book, Evening the Score, is a fun, flirty love story, but it's about
a heated rivalry, which I think is like the biggest thing right now, especially with like
Netflix movies and series and everything that's going on.
So tell us a little bit about this spicy romance.
Yeah.
So in Evening the Score, Olivia takes a temp job as an NHL mascot so that she can seek
revenge against the team's new star player, Brody.
And as she gets to know him better, maybe she finds out that he isn't as bad as she
had thought.
I feel like that's usually the case.
It kind of starts off with like the love and hate kind of relationship, which eventually
the love takes over and they're happily ever after.
And so what's next for you in this literary world?
Like, will there be another book about these two lovebirds or are you kind of going to
venture off into creating another couple?
Yeah, I have another book that hopefully will, you know, see the bookshelves someday.
But I've written another book about two hockey fans who fall in love.
I think with the massive popularity of hockey romance right now, you know, there's this
whole new wave of hockey fans.
And so I really wanted to write something that was like for them, you know, hockey fans
falling in love.
Yeah.
And so even though you write romance, would you say when it's just you having a long time
you're reading, would you say romance is one of your top genres to read or do you kind
of like to change your palate a little bit?
I like to read a variety of things.
I think as an author, that's like a good, that's like a good best practice to have to
sort of to not only read just your own genre, but also to branch out to read other things,
what to see what people are reading, to see what readers love in that current time.
Yeah.
And so what is next for you in this literary world?
Like, I know you're writing another book, but would you love to see maybe one of these
turn into like a miniseries or a movie or are you kind of OK with just sticking in the
book world?
Oh, my goodness.
I would love.
Hello.
Please call me.
I am waiting by the phone.
I or HBO or, you know, Amazon, like whoever, I would love that.
I think right now there are a ton of really great hockey romances that are getting TV
adaptations, which I think is wonderful.
And and yeah, I mean, I would be so open to to seeing my books in that way.
That would be such a crazy experience, I think.
Yeah. Well, fingers crossed that we'll see it on the big screen one of these days.
So before I let you go, is there anything else that you would like to say to fellow
book lovers out there?
Yeah, I mean, I think that if you are the type of hockey romance book lover who really
enjoys hockey in your hockey romance, that's really what I'm trying to do is bring this
joy of hockey and love of hockey and passion of hockey to a sport that sometimes isn't
as easy to get into.
It isn't as easy to learn about hockey.
There's so much to know. And so that's one of the things with my romance is that I
really want readers who are passionate about hockey to find them and hopefully learn
something about, you know, the sport that I love so much, at least.
Well, let's see. I can't wait to see your next book that comes out and continue in
this sports and hockey world.
And I hope you continue to have fun on the ice.
And thank you so much for taking the time to come and chat with us.
We greatly appreciate it.
Thank you so much.
