Why the Detroit Lions hired Michigan's rising football mind

Have you noticed how the Detroit Lions keep strengthening their organization behind the scenes? Like and follow, because this latest front office move could pay off long before fans ever see the results on Sundays. The Lions have added another promising football mind to their scouting department. According to reports, Michigan Assistant Director of Personnel John Collins is leaving the Wolverines to join Detroit as a scouting assistant. Collins spent the past two seasons helping Michigan build one of college football's strongest recruiting classes. During his time in Ann Arbor, the Wolverines landed elite prospects including Bryce Underwood, Andrew Babalola, Andrew Marsh, Jordan Young, Shamari Earls, and Nate Marshall. Before Michigan, Collins also worked under Kirby Smart at Georgia, one of the most successful college football programs of the past decade. That experience gave him a front-row seat to championship-level recruiting and player evaluation. Now, the Lions are bringing that background into their own organization. While scouting assistants don't grab headlines, they play an important role by evaluating prospects, organizing scouting information, and helping identify future NFL talent. Detroit has built one of the league's deepest rosters through smart drafting and player development, and this hire suggests the franchise remains committed to strengthening every part of its football operation. It's another example of the Lions investing not only in players and coaches, but also in the people responsible for finding the next generation of stars. Whether Collins becomes another key piece of Detroit's front office success remains to be seen, but adding experienced evaluators from powerhouse college programs has become a growing trend across the NFL.
