AI GeneratedVietnam's stock market is evolving into a vital medium and long-term capital channel for the private sector, which drives over half of the nation's GDP. With rising mobilization figures and a roadmap to upgrade to secondary emerging market status, the government aims to unlock more capital for domestic and foreign-invested enterprises to support national economic growth.
Vietnam's stock market is increasingly reinforcing its role as a key medium and
long-term capital channel for businesses, especially the private sector. The issue
was highlighted at the conference, Private Sector in the Era of National Rise,
held in Hanoi on Wednesday morning. The report tells more.
According to experts at the conference, the private sector contributes more than half of
Vietnam's GDP and accounts for 97% of all enterprises. However, many businesses continue
to face difficulties accessing capital, especially as Vietnam pursues double-digit economic growth
targets. With the deep understanding and guiding directives of the party, the government and the
Ministry of Finance, Vietnam's stock market will become a medium and long-term capital
mobilization channel for the economy, including the private sector.
Under Resolution 68, the Politburo has identified private enterprises as among the most important
drivers of the national economy. In that context, policymakers, market experts,
business leaders are focusing on how to unlock more capital for private companies.
Capital mobilization through the stock market reached US$15.35 billion in 2023,
up 25% year-on-year. The figure continued to rise by nearly 29% in 2024 and almost 43% in 2025,
to more than US$28.28 billion, reflecting renewed growth in both the stock and corporate bond
markets. Businesses that need capital and have strong business models should consider an IPO
roadmap for their companies, especially technology-related firms and manufacturing
or commercial enterprises with stable cash flows, solid financial statements and transparent
operations. Alongside encouraging domestic firms to go public, experts also called for broader
participation from foreign-invested enterprises. We must allow FDI enterprises to be listed on
the stock market. When foreign direct investment enterprises are listed on the market, they already
have investors around the world, and we can mobilize a much larger source of capital than
we do currently. The recent confirmation by Fousey Russell of Vietnam's roadmap to upgrade
its stock market to secondary emerging market status by September this year is also expected
to boost investor confidence and improve access to global capital.
