Let's be in our sorrows together here But i'm definitely excited for this And what all this means for this houston rockets team today, but just a few hours ago shums trania Tweeting that the houston rockets make a signing and not in the form of a player but in a form of a coach Shums trying to show you of espn tweets Houston rockets are hiring chip england as a new assistant coach on emi yudoka staff Sources tell espn england and this is the key part for me here, which i'm so excited about well regarded in player development and shooting Specialty specialty spent the last four seasons with the oklahoma city thunder after a 17 year one in san antonio from 2005 from 2022 where he built a relationship with coach udoka, so Chris sorry chip england coming over who already has some rapport who already has a relationship Who already has chemistry with coach udoka with their time together? Um in san antonio, so let's take a look at the journey number one for coach Uh england here, uh, and what that has looked like, um from his from a coaching um Career standpoint, right? So he started his career As an assistant coach, uh with the detroit pistons, right? Um from let's see here 1999 to 2000 then from 2000 and 3 to 2005 he went to the denver nuggets and then from like I mentioned from 2005 and 2022 17 years under coach popovich and um The san antonio spurs being the quote-unquote shot doctor and his last I mentioned the last four seasons where he spent the time with the oklahoma city thunder and I want to mention this because everything that I was reading about the hiring of chip england here that he was really um, pivotal In the shot development of kawai leonard. He's worked with tony parker monty ginobili And I mean that dynasty that that the championship run that the san antonio spurs had I mean they had guys I could shoot the basketball. I mean even guys like danny green that were there I mean the list goes on and on for the san antonio spurs So this is huge for the houston rockets having a guy like this and a coach like this and a player development Which has been pretty much the story for this rocket team over the last three years, right? Because you want to see development from amen thompson. Shane goon. Um Reed shepherd, right though. Jabari smith jr This is really really big for the houston rockets to bring ever a a coach like this. So number one, let's talk about what The difference and what Coach england was able to do with the oklahoma city thunder and this tweet comes from justin martinez um on twitter And he said okc shot a league worse 32.3 from deep in 2021 in 2022 before it hired chip england who's known as quote-unquote the shot doctor And this is the last four seasons of what he was able to do with the players that he did have there um In oklahoma city, right? So the first season 2022 2023 they went from the prior season to this first season He got there going from the worst to the 17th Now that's a huge jump right and then not only that from 17th from that season to the 2023 to the 2024 season 38.9 as a team that was the best in the league and they've stayed consistent in the top 10 over the last two seasons 2024 2025 when they won the title Sixth best in the entire nbn than just last season They did took a little bit of a dip at 36.5 at the ninth best So, I mean that's significant right when we talk about the players that the thunder have right this guys like isaiah Joe who are great obviously shooters coming in from college Um, but he was able to work with a guy like new dork Right aaron wiggins guys that they had coming off of the bench that were monumental And pivotal in their playoff runs and their championship run over the last, you know Two seasons ago in this this past season as well, right? And you also now take a look for the juicing rockets team, right? Let's go back to the regular season for the rockets um so They were during the season right the 10th best Um three point shooting team in the entire nba That was during the regular season 36.4 percent 10th best in the entire nba during the regular season Right now the thing that stuck out to me the most during the post season is where it matters the most Was of the 16 teams that qualified for the post season the houston rockets Were the worst three-point shooting team in that span and yes, they only played what six games in the post season Compare that to other teams that you know got up more shots more shot volume things like that It's a small sample You can make the argument for the uc rockets But they were still the worst right when it matters the most with the live show the brightest in the post season That's where you need these shooters around kevin durant and alpernon shangu to step up, right? This is a roster that they're going in with we've talked a lot about some of the players that could acquire They should have acquired But I think this makes a huge difference now for two players in particular for this houston rockets team And let's start here number one with amend thompson of the houston rockets, right a lot of the the the the conversation was that the rockets, you know Were not going to trade amend thompson and in any type of deal Maybe only in guys trading Would be a wemby Sga, not that those players are going to be on the trade market But that's where the conversation was for the rock. Let's forget all that last season amend thompson shot 21.6 percent from beyond the arc And the only direction for him to go, uh is up right shooting that type of percentage from three so imagine Amend thompson benefiting from coach england and i'm not saying he's going to go from a 21 Three-point shooter all the way up to 35 But you want to see some gradual improvements from amend thompson and we know what he brings on the defensive side There's no question about that, right? The question now is the next step for that amend thompson is going to take is going to be on the offensive side Developing a jump shot developing a three-point shot and that's where coach england comes in right another player Jabari smith jr. That can benefit from um, coach england coming over here for the um use and rockets right because they signed that extension a couple seasons ago for Uh for jabari smith, right? We take a look again. I meant thompson a career Three-point shooter at 21.6 last year and we take a look here For a jabari smith who did shoot. Let's look here 36.2. That's not bad, right? But you want to take a step forward you want to get to that 37 38 39 40 percent um three-point shooter for amend thompson, sorry for jabari smith, right because The use of rockets are going to go in with kevin durant. They're going to go in with alpert and shangoon That's the roster that it is right now Unless something catastrophic or something crazy happens before we get to the season for the use of rockets, right? Reed shepherd guys like that reed shepherd tari east and jabari smith Men thompson fred van vliet the depth it goes on and on for this rocket team So I think this is really really big for this rockets team that from a player development standpoint and shot selection and shot development standpoint Hiring a guy like that Now you can let coach udoka focus on the defensive side and now you let you know coach england focus on the player development guys take a step forward because look This is a big season for the euston rocket team that if they don't have success in the post season We could possibly see them blow it up, right? Maybe if it's not in the next off season, or maybe it's during the trade deadline, right? But I do think this is huge for this euston rocket scene with coach england coming over So i'm definitely excited for this.
