Video Summary
AI GeneratedThis video highlights the heartwarming process of matching rescue dogs with the right owners through Wood Green. It features two primary stories: Mavis, a giant breed dog who finds a companion in Max, and Roxy, a senior Chihuahua who brings joy and purpose to an elderly couple. Both stories emphasize the emotional bonds between humans and animals and the importance of proper behavioral matching.
What are you looking at, Max?
Oh, that's what you're looking at.
That's a big dog.
Good girlie.
Thanks, soppy girl.
Mavis is a gentle giant.
She is absolutely huge, but she's just a big, goofy puppy, really.
She thinks she's a small dog, to be honest.
We don't know much about her history.
From getting to know her, we've found that she's a really lovely girl.
She's really affectionate.
She loves dogs. She gets joy out of being with them.
So it would be nice if she could live with another dog.
We're definitely looking for someone from Mavis
who especially loves big breeds or giant breeds
who aren't going to be put off by her size
and how much space she's going to take up in their house.
Woo!
I think this could be the one, you know.
I think these could be the ones that say yes to Mavis.
Here she comes. Here we go, Max.
Who's this coming?
Good girl.
Hiya!
Good boy.
Thank you so much for watching our video.

She's massive.
Mavis!
Very happy waggy tail.
I think Mavis has found his man.
Look at his face.
He's ready to go.
Shake it off. Good boy.
I've got my work cut out for me.
Do you like him?
I think he quite likes you too.
You've got some very happy waggy tails and flirty ears.
Oh, my goodness.
They love each other.
Right, go on then, guys.
Please don't break us.
Whoa, Mav.
Oh, my...
She's so goofy.
This is exactly what I was hoping to see.
She's playing with Max the exact same way he loves to play with dogs.
I'll bop you with my bottom.
Careful, Mavis.
The thing I'm worried about right now is Max not being able to say to her,
like, I've had enough.
Guys.
You do need one of the dogs to sort of stop playing and calm the situation down.
Otherwise, it just keeps getting more and more exciting.
Yeah, the only thing will be managing this in the home.
Yeah, definitely.
There's two very big dogs wrestling in your living room.
It's a lot of dog.
They're getting on well here,
but it's not a guarantee this will help Max when he's at home.
I think it'd be a good time to get Sandy down to come and meet you, Mavis,
and see what he thinks.
Would you like to go down to the pen?
Yeah. Yeah? Yeah.
Come on.
Good luck. Thank you.
Not that you need it.
Who's that?
Good girl, Mav.
Mavis, meet my dad.
Good girl.
Being in the pen with two big dogs is very different to watching it.
He'll quickly realize how much space they're going to take up.
Max.
Up, up, up.
I wonder if he's thinking,
it's too much.
Good boy. I know.
I know. It's your dad, isn't it?
They do match each other really quite nicely.
Yeah.
It's quite nice to see because he was quite nervous in here.
Yeah.
Yes. Good girl.
Well done.
You can be clever.
Good girl.
Hello, gorgeous boy. You're being good.
Such a good boy.
I think he's trying to calm them down
and see if they've got the potential
to settle in the home.
How are you feeling?
We've got a little bit of work to do.
Exactly. It's, you know, the...
I think the word's potential, isn't it?
There's the beginnings of a really lovely relationship.
I really enjoyed my meet with Mavis.
I think Max enjoyed it even more than me.
He's completely tired now.
He's completely done.
Mavis is a giant.
When I first saw her walk in the pen,
I thought, wow, how is she going to fit
through the front door, to be honest?
Whether it's too much,
I don't know.
We're going to have to get you some new harnesses, aren't we?
That's going to be something to think about for me.
Mavis!
I quite like living with a giant.
They actually look out for each other.
It's quite nice.
When they're in the house, they're honestly quite calm.
They just like to sleep a lot.
One of my favourite things about them
is when we go out, when they play with each other,
it's just the best thing.
When they just chase each other
or if they love going in the water together.
Honestly, getting Mavis has been really good for Max.
He's been a lot more calm.
He's less anxious.
What this is all about is making Max happy.
Him and Mavis now have got a good life together.
They're just two happy dogs
exploring the world.
The boss is looking for a dog
that has personality.
Did you say the boss?
Yes. I love that.
I like that.
What sort of age bracket are you looking for?
I don't think about age
when I'm looking at people
and I'm not thinking about age
when I'm thinking about the dog.
He's 85
and I'm 82.
I certainly don't feel
the age
other than when I try
and run or jump hedges
or fences.
We have got backup
should anything go wrong with us.
I know death is going to happen
but it doesn't shadow me in anything
but I do.
We're enjoying our lives.
A dog provides another dimension
and we're not ready
to close the doors yet.
Hello, you're through to Wood Green.
It's Abigail speaking. How can I help?
The younger dog
attacks the old dog.
They sleep together.
They cuddle up together.
It's just these spontaneous moments
that are happening.
It's fine when there are puppies
but just recently
certain things like the doorbell
say that goes off
or the neighbour's dog's at the fence
it's like Roxy's trying to say
I'm going to deal with this
and then she'll just give her a little telling off.
Then they end up having a bit of a tiff together
but obviously the chihuahua being a smaller dog
is coming off worse
because I just think it could escalate.
When dogs are fighting
it's going to be quite stressful for them
and can be potentially dangerous.
For an owner your only option
might be to make that decision
who stays and who goes.
It must be so difficult having to pick.
You'll be a good girl.
Is it better in here?
Not as chilly is it?
No.
Roxy just likes her comforts.
She gets a lot more from just sitting with one of us
and having attention than she does from going for a walk
so she's
quite shut down
doesn't really want to do a lot.
We just try and give her as many cuddles as we can
to try and make her feel a bit better.
Mind the steps.
Yeah I've got it.
Have you got them?
I'm not sure there's too many
advantages in getting older
but
we're together.
Up to the little house.
What I love about Pim
is his strength, his help
his support
he is my rock really.
Do you want me to
you go up first.
We look after each other.
She's part of me
I'm part of her.
I couldn't be without her, that's the truth.
I'm older so
I assume that
the chances are that I will go first.
I don't want to imagine a life
without Pim.
I know I would be very lost.
I'm her number one
carer.
I look after her.
I worry about her.
Why wouldn't I?
She's precious.
When I'm gone
after all those years together
I'm suddenly not there.
It's not going to be good.
Having a dog will help.
We'll go this way.
Come up here.
Hello.
Hello little dog.
Hiya.
This is Roxy.
She's quite cold.
She's shaking.
She prefers the warmer weather.
That's alright, so do I.
I really hope it works.
Me too.
She's a little one, she is just drop dead gorgeous.
Oh yes.
Look at that.
You're just lovely.
Oh gosh.
There we go.
It's a lovely little dog.
Here we are.
Oh Roxy.
You're shaking Roxy.
She won't shake soon.
We'll take you back to a nice warm house.
You're a lovely girl.
Just what I would have ordered.
I could tell she was in love
with that dog.
I was absolutely delighted.
You are just perfect.
I'm so happy.
This couldn't be better.
I know.
Alright, you're going to come
and live with us.
Come on, come on Roxy.
As you get older,
you need to keep your mind alive.
Roxy, come on.
Oh yes,
it's all wet isn't it.
Otherwise you sit
in a chair and become even grumpier
than I am.
Has she made you less grumpy then?
Oh yes.
She'll say no.
Jury's out on that one.
