People find ways to enjoy the heat, spend some time outdoors this summer.
Dermatologists are bringing attention to a startling trend.
Young people are ditching the sunscreen.
And this is true, Aaron, because I have to beg my kids to put it on.
At the same time, they're apparently embracing tanning, both indoors and out.
Skin specialists are now issuing reminders about the risks excessive tanning and
a lack of sunscreen can hold.
The younger generation doesn't seem to be fearful or
maybe even aware of the risks of tanning and long-term UV radiation.
Repeated and long-term exposure to the sun and
to ultraviolet radiation causes skin cancer.
It is true.
According to the CDC, UV radiation can be emitted by both natural sources,
like the sun, and artificial ones, too, like those tanning beds.
And the risks aren't all about health.
If you're tanning in your 20s, you could pay for it down the line with wrinkles,
sunspots, and increased redness.
But if you really want that tan look, experts say self-tanners
are the safest way to go, and there's lots of them out there.
