Staff Sergeant Salvador “Sal” Flores of The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own” performs and breaks down two of the most common saxophone audition excerpts frequently required in military band, symphony orchestra, and university auditions.

SSG Salvador Flores grew up in Houston, TX, where he began playing saxophone at age 11. A versatile performer, Flores works across Classical, Mexican, R&B, and Jazz styles. His notable achievements include being named a 2020 Yamaha Young Performing Artist, 1st Prize Winner of the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance Solo Competition, a 2017 U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts, and a 2022 Performance Today Young Artist in Residence.

He is an active chamber musician and serves as the soprano saxophonist of the Aero Quartet, winners of the 2021 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition Gold Medal. Flores holds both B.M. and M.M. degrees in Saxophone Performance, as well as an M.M. in Improvisation, from the University of Michigan under Dr. Timothy McAllister and Dr. Andrew Bishop.
