Valkyries' winning streak ends, but fans say historic season is just getting started

It has been a historic season for the Golden State Valkyries who have reached remarkable milestones and have quickly become one of the biggest stories in the WNBA. Tonight fans packed Chase Center hoping to see the team extend its record-breaking winning streak. KTVU's Betty Yu live at Chase Center tonight with that story. Hi Betty. Hi Claudine. So the Valkyries, they didn't get the win tonight but still the excitement surrounding this team right now is only getting stronger. Tonight was also the team's first ever Hello Kitty Plus sheet giveaway and fans lined up more than four hours before tip-off to get their hands on one of these. The Valkyries entered Ball Hall of Monday as one of the hottest teams in the WNBA. From jerseys to helmets to handmade signs they showed up ready to push the team toward another historic win. I can feel all the passion you have for this team. Do you feel it? Oh my god I just love it. It hasn't started yet. I can't contain myself. I'm just so excited. The Valkyries had a chance to make it 10 straight wins Monday but their franchise record winning streak ended at nine games after a 90-82 loss to the Washington Mystics. I think it's a testament to Natalie Nakase's vision of following in the Golden State Warriors footsteps of strength in numbers, having a deep bench, being able to play anybody at any time. Fans say it's the team's chemistry, confidence and style of play that's made this season so special. It's unbelievable and it's so magical to watch how she put the Natalie Nakase put this team together and they're so fun to watch and they just have such a great spirit. What do you think is their secret to winning this season? Their cohesiveness, their togetherness, they're a group. Nobody stands alone. The team regularly hosts sellout crowds at Chase Center which is considered one of the loudest environments in the league. On Monday there was another attraction before tip-off. The Valkyries hosted their first ever Hello Kitty plush giveaway for the first 10,000 fans. I left work early. Natalie, did you want one of these? I was stressing out all day. For many it was the perfect souvenir to go along with one of the Bay Area's hottest tickets. You know the Bay Area the last couple of years has been struggling with a little bit of success so to see these ladies just out there killing it is amazing. So again they didn't get the win tonight but many of their fans believe that this year's team has what it takes to win it all. They will make a deep playoff run. That's a prediction from all of the fans I spoke to here tonight. Claudine. Yes Betty, I think it's going to take more than one loss to get these fans you know not super happy and rolling for this team because they're super loyal and it's very fun to to watch these games. I've got to ask you though where did you get that Hello Kitty plushie because I'm sure people are like how did she get her hands on one? I will tell you we had some special arrangements made and just in my photographer we had some special arrangements made because we have our desk assignment editor Geneva. She's a big fan so I'm bringing this straight back. She is gritting right now we believe it. All right you get many points from Geneva. All right thanks Betty.
