AI GeneratedThe New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 6-1 to win the rubber game of their series. Nolan McLean dominated the Phillies with a six-inning, ten-strikeout scoreless performance, while Francisco Lindor led the offense with a home run and three RBIs. The Phillies struggled offensively, managing only one run via an Alec Bohm home run.
The key to any series for the Philadelphia Phillies is to win that series and today the
Phillies have a chance to do that. A beautiful day for baseball. Finally the humidity's out,
finally the smoke is out, but yes the Mets fans are here, but there's more Phillies fans
to of course drown them out. It's game three of this series. So the Phillies will start
Allen Ron Held today, but this fifth spot in the rotation it's going to be key moving forward.
It's tough to go through a series when your fifth starter is not winning games. I think
right now the best option the Phillies have is Ron Held. With Zach Wheeler, Christopher Sanchez,
or Jesus Lozada start a game for the Phillies. They are 41 and 14. If anybody else starts they
are 14 and 30. 2-0. That one's out to right field going back on it. Rincones Jr. makes the catch.
And that'll bring up Juan Soto who is de-aging today. Fly ball right center field. Rincones
again. He and Crawford are there and Gabriel makes the call. All right John, not bad. Six
pitches in, two outs. Yeah, six pitches in, two outs. As yesterday we're held to just three hits
and one run. 22nd time this year the Mets have been held to one run or fewer. That's the most
in the National League. This ball is yet batting right. Who knows how long Ron Held's supposed to
go in this one. Last time he saw the Mets he went just four. So it's not as if they have injected
him into this rotation as we've given him six and seven, which is what the likes of Christopher
Sanchez and Jesus Lozada and Zach Wheeler do with their eyes closed. Bichette keeps fouling him off.
Fouled back again. So Bichette scratching and clocking. What a turn that for Bowe. There it is.
And the curveball misses low of the ball for him. Bichette works out an 11-pitch walk.
Now things move forward now to Francisco Lindor. So two out, now Lindor. All for eight in this
series. And to fight his way out of the miasma. Yes. And Lindor walks one to deep right field.
Forget that. That is way out of here. Deep into the second deck. Lindor crashes a 2-1 homer.
And the Mets jump out to an early 2-0 lead. And when you're in the miasma,
you got to hit a rocket to get out of it. Ron Held gave up two home runs in his last outing
and only three in the third inning. So the home run ball plagues him again. Six left-handed bats
in the lineup against Nolan McClain this afternoon. His last eight games though,
McClain settled down. 2.35 ERA. Yeah, you're going to see a lot of this from Nolan McClain.
You're going to see quite a few swings and misses. Beautiful start for Nolan McClain.
1-2-3 go the Bills. 2-0 New York. Brett Baby leads off against Alan Ron Held.
And first pitch change-up lined into right field and it's down for a base hit. So Baby
will stay back enough to drop that ball into right center. He's got a leadoff hit.
Here's Terrence Batting Wright. Despite the fact that he is really a backup catcher,
he has more defensive runs saved than any catcher in baseball. That's a fair ball over the bag. It's
going to go all the way into the deep corner. Baby flying around third. He's going to be waved around
and he will score without a throw. Luis Terrence with an RBI double and it's 3-0 New York.
Mets jumping out quick. It would be nice for them to take a road series,
particularly here in Philadelphia. And he lays off the ball four. So he'll walk to the fourth
time of this series. Ron Held, 46 pitches in. He's not out of the second inning. He had a pitcher
who got two easy outs to start the game. And then Bichette works an 11-pitch walk. That's right.
And that really just changes the entire tide of the early portion of the game. Bichette loops
one into shallow center. That is going to fall for a base hit. Around third comes Terrence,
but he will stop there. So Bichette dunks a single into center field to load the bases.
Ron Held is just treading water right now for the Phillies. If you're the Mets,
this is an opportunity to finally give yourself a little bit of a cushion. Something they have
wanted so badly and needed so badly and have not had this season. Curveball drilled into right
field for a base hit. Terrence is in. Soto will stop at third as Rincones gets it in. So Mundore
cashes his third RBI of the day and the Mets lead 4-0. We'll see how long Don Mattingly leaves
Ron Held out there. This is what has plagued the Phillies all year. Of course,
Rincones flips the glasses down, having trouble with it, and he makes the catch and Soto comes
home. Rincones airmails the cutoff man and the other runners move up. Watch his glasses. Watch
what he does. They're not flip downs. Oh, I better put them on. Really? He takes them off the top of
his head. I have never seen that. And he lost the ball in the process. I've seen that at Macy's. I
don't see it on the field. That is the best advertisement I have ever seen for wearing
flip down sunglasses. Here's Alec Bohm who was hitting 216. The 1-1 to Bohm. Hit hard off
McLean's foot. It rolls toward first. Young picks it up. Dives for the bag. Bohm is safe. He dove in
as well. So Bohm is safe at first and now we find out about McLean. Now, did it get his shoe or did
it get him somewhat higher on his ankle? I didn't see it. Oh, got the shin. That one's the one that
really hurts but you can't show it. So you just you wave them back but you're really smarting for
a while. That'll leave a notch on your leg. 0-1. Chopper hit to short. Could be two. Lindor's got
it. Flipped to Simeon. One on the first. Double play right on cue. McLean cruised through the
first with a couple of strikeouts. Gave up a infield single with one out in the second to
Bohm. McLean mowed through the top of the Phillies order in the first with two K's.
Back-to-back K's to finish off the Phillies in the third. Two strikeouts for Nolan McLean in the
inning. Ron Hell had a much more efficient third inning when he used just 11 pitches to retire the
Mets in order. Swung on, fought off the opposite way through the right side of base hit. And Bohm
has shed a board for the third time today and I'll tell you what, his at-bats at points in this game
have really been the turning points of innings. A high ball four and that'll put Rutters on first
and second. Two outs and bench coming up. Swung on a hit on the ground to Harper. A couple of
bounces, he waits, he grabs it, steps on the bag for the final out. So a couple of extra pitches
in that inning but no runs for the Mets. Six home runs in his last seven games against the Mets.
First opposition player to do that against the Mets since Kyle Schwarber in 2021. And he came
up and in with a fastball to get Schwarber. That's three consecutive strikeouts from McLean.
Five on the day. Talked about that in the open. You just got to tie him up. He's just too strong.
Anything out over the plate. Stands right on the dish, wants you to throw away, which is the meat
of his bat, and just got to tie up. It's just so muscular and strong. And Marsh chases the curveball
down for strike three. Did he get a piece of that? Notorious is saying no. No, I don't think he did.
Oh, that's not. I don't think he did. No way. Not even close. Play not reviewable there.
Marsh gets a life. McLean's ready to go. The payoff. Swing and a ground ball hit towards the
middle. Lindor behind the bag fields. Flips to first for the out. And Nolan McLean has a 1-2-3
fourth inning. Nolan McLean working with a 5-0 lead. Alec Bohlm has the only hit. He banks one
from McLean's leg for an infield hit. And Bohlm goes down on the high cutter. And that's six
strikeouts for McLean. He's really effectively used that high fastball today. Yes, he has. Three
or four times. Taylor drifting toward the line. Can he stop the fly ball? And they're two out.
Very efficient start for Mr. McLean. Curveball in for a call strike three. Gosh, can this man spin it?
He has retired nine batters in a row. He has struck out seven. And he's worked through five
scoreless in Philly. The leadoff baserunner for the Mets. And the scrappy A.J. Ewing coming up.
Grounded inside the third base bag. Fair ball backhanded by Bohlm. He throws to second and
basically has no play. Torrens is already there. Ewing beats out the infield hit. Now Soto is
coming up. Juan has 21 home runs this season. That's potentially looking at another big inning.
They've had a couple of them today. Line drive up the middle. Base hit for Soto. Torrens around third.
He'll be waved around. Ewing goes to third. Three straight hits for the Mets. Soto with an RBI single
and it's six to nothing in New York. Nolan McLean has retired his last ten. He's given up only an
infield hit to Alec Bohlm and one walk. That's been it. That came in the second inning. Strike three
called and Ricconis is caught looking. Eight strikeouts now for McLean. What is this? His 28th
start. Yes. Thank you. He's just learning. There's another hook right there. Got him to go.
That is nine strikeouts from McLean. One shy of his season high. He's fanned the last three. This
is a big learning year for McLean. That's a fair ball right over the bag and that'll go into the
deep corner. An extra base hit for Trey Turner. Turner has struck out his first two at bats.
Swinging early on the curve ball and has himself a double. Just the second hit of the game for
the Phillies. Outside ball four. The Phillies have two runners on. It's only the second time
today they've had two runners on at one point in an inning. And it'll give Bryce Harper a chance
here against McLean. Got him looking. Side retired. Beautiful sinker by McLean to pick up his tenth
strikeout of the day. Six scoreless innings for Nolan McLean. J.J. Minter will take over for the
Mets as we go to the bottom of the seventh inning. His 20th game. The Mets have arrested
bullpen. McLean threw a lot of pitches in the sixth. That one's hit well deep to left field.
Alec Baum has put the Phillies on the board. 12th home run of the year. It's the first run
the Phillies have gotten against Minter since 2023. And the Phillies, well it would shut out at
least six to one. Yeah they gotta like that. Get one on the board. Maybe five or six more would
be all right. Very nice. First and second one out. All of a sudden the Phillies threatening
to come back in this game. Three straight hits against Minter. Able to bring it Lundo up.
And Lundo's two for seven as a pinch hitter. Brown's one for the hole. Cut off by Bichette.
Out at second. Semi into first. In time double play. Side retired. Francisco Lindor has also had
a big game coming up. Three RBIs. Two run home run. RBI single. And in his last two plate appearances
he's drawn two walks. Drives this one out to center. Crawford back and it's over his head
and off the wall. Lindor heads for second and he slides in safely with a double. Francisco Lindor
with a huge game. Home run, single, two walks and now a double on base five times in a row.
And the Phillies are down to their final out of the day. And he taps one to third. Handled by Bichette
and the ball game is over. CNL Paris gets the final three outs to back up a brilliant
outing for Nolan McClain. A breakout game for Francisco Lindor.
And the Mets take the rubber game of the series from the Phillies six to one.
