The Dodgers a strike away from a proper celebration.
Tonight, we're not going to have the argument for argument's sake.
We're not going to debate East versus West,
Yin versus Yang, mine versus yours, in circles just to end up back where we started.
It felt like nothing, you know, I was just kind of floating.
Because it would be a waste of your time to steer this ship anywhere other than the heart of this story.
This very material, very tangible story.
You still feel like we got this in the bag.
With all due respect to the journey, this spectacle is absolutely about the destination.
We've certainly faced our share of adversity this year, and those guys have never flinched.
These undeniable megastars in a best of seven to decide who truly is the best.
When you when you do things the right way, you play the right way, you're a good teammate, the game honors you.
This biblical Shakespearean final act.
Welcome to the 2024 World Series on Fox presented by Capital One.
It's baseball's two most legendary franchises for the 12th time and for the first time in 43 years.
The New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Swing and a miss, he got him with a slider, to judge, sways and misses, and Jack Flaherty strikes him out for the second time.
And a 1-2-3 inning for Garrett Cole, who's given up just one base runner.
Oaks it down the right field line, on comes Soto, still coming, and Rizzo over the shoulder makes the grab.
High pass, false punch towards the right field corner, Soto on the move won't get there.
Will Smith, lifts it to right field, Soto's over, he makes the catch.
Here comes Hernandez, here comes Soto, throw, bang, bang, but he's in safe.
Soto with a base hit to center field to open the sixth.
Payoff.
Judges down, swinging for the third time.
Tying run at first, go ahead, run at the plate.
Golf's one, way back there, scraping the sky, and giving the Yankees the lead.
You look up majestic in a baseball dictionary, you can find a shot of that home run.
On to the Wells, with a 1-1 pitch, Wells bounces one towards the middle, diving step by Tommy Edmund to save a run.
Another 2-2, and Mookie Betts, scorched a third, and it's Chisholm off a bounce to get him.
Lifts his ball to right center field, Soto on the run to the track, it's off the top of the wall, Betts ties it to center field, it's judged to pull it in, but it's tied, as Mookie Betts drives in, show-hold time.
Play victorious, lifts the fly ball to left center field, headed deep there, it is gone!
With some help from a fan!
They're going to call that fan interference.
Crack that flare, shadow left field, Radugo coming out with a diving grab!
2-2.
Ground ball, diving stop, Edmund can't get it out of his glove, and the Yankees take the lead.
Tommy Edmund with a 1-2, and a ground ball right side, under Oswaldo Cabrera!
First one from Cortes, is lifted to left field.
Radugo runs over, and makes the grab!
Did he hold on? He did!
We now have Mookie Betts coming to the plate, and they may put him on and take their chances of Freddie Freeman.
And the bases will be loaded here, for Freddie Freeman, with the Dodgers down 3-2, and down to their last out in Game 1.
The kind of at-bat that every kid that plays baseball dreams of one day having.
Reality for Freddie Freeman right here.
Taylor the time run, Edmund Bologna.
As it was on an October night 36 years ago, a hobbled Game 1 hero for the Dodgers.
Freddie Freeman with a walk-off grand slam, to win Game 1 of the World Series 6-3 over the Yankees.
Unbelievable.
What allows this team to come back from a gut-punch loss like last night?
You still feel like, we got this in the bag, you know?
And so what does Game 2 have in store in this clash of baseball titans?
It's proven to be worth the wait so far.
The Dodgers over the Yankees in extra innings in Game 1, and we're all set for Game 2 in Dodger Stadium.
Here it comes.
Judge swings and misses, made the exact pitch you described.
Hit in the air, down the left field line, towards the corner it goes.
It is gone!
Tommy Edmund strikes again.
Another 2-2 from Yamamoto.
He pulls one in the air to deep right field.
Betts watches this one go, and Juan Soto's tied the game.
That's driven the other way.
Deep right center field, judges back, it is gone!
Teoscar Hernandez puts the Dodgers back in front.
Hit that grand slam.
Launches this ball right field!
He's found the seats again!
There he goes!
Throw down is in time!
And he's 0-2 in stolen base attempts in this postseason.
And he's in some pain.
Well, that is not a good sign.
You watch him put his left arm down, and it either has jammed his shoulder or his wrist.
Watch it go down, and right there.
And a hush has fallen over Dodger Stadium.
The payoff!
2-2, Rizzo got hit!
And the bases are loaded, there you go!
That's what he does.
Another 2-2.
Volpe's down on strikes.
Trevino lifts a fly ball to center field.
Tommy Edmund is there, and the Dodgers lead this World Series two game set on.
It takes Alex Vecchia one pitch to put out the bases loaded fire.
Is this more of a pain tolerance and comfort thing for him at this point?
It will be.
Yes, that's exactly what it is.
He's a competitor.
He wasn't going to not be in there.
The World Series theater shifts from Los Angeles to New York.
We're just about set for game three.
It is a fastball.
It's ripped down the line.
It is gone!
A fifth consecutive World Series game with a Freddie Freeman home run.
3-2.
Defensive swing, poked into right field.
Soto's not going to get there.
Squares again, lays it down.
Leiter's going to come home with it!
Got him at the plate!
Hooks it into left field.
That's down for a base hit.
Here comes Stanton.
Here comes Hernandez.
Hernandez's throw.
It is in time!
Perfectly thrown!
Up the middle, base hit center field.
Dodgers trying to take advantage immediately of the stolen base.
Judges throws, not in time.
Chisholm down on strikes.
High fly ball to deep right field.
Betts goes back at the track, at the wall, and gone!
2-2 to Torres.
Bouncing ball towards the middle.
Edman with a spin and a throw.
And the Dodgers dominate game three.
One more win, and that's all I care about right now.
The Dodgers find themselves on the verge of a sweep.
And the Yankees, after this long wait to get back to the World Series,
trying to avoid a fast exit and force a game five tomorrow night.
Freeman cracks one, deep to right field, and gone again!
Does he have room?
Fights with the fan.
They're going to say that it's an out.
New York kid.
Bases loaded, two out.
Cranks a ball, deep left field.
Fumpe with redemption!
Perfect place, perfect time.
Just what they needed.
Smith sends a fly ball the other way.
Back goes Soto, that short porch.
It's got a chance, and it's gone!
Fans are wishing they had in game one.
Tim Hill against Freddie Freeman, 4-6.
And so it's a one-run game as Edmond comes in from third.
Max pitching in the World Series.
Wells turns on a ball, sends it a mile!
It's gone!
Driven the other way, deep right center field.
It's got a chance, and goodbye!
In the center field, Judge comes on.
He's got it, and we've got a game five in the Bronx tomorrow night.
Obviously, we're in a tough position.
But there's a lot of baseball left to be played, and anything can happen.
The Yankees have kept the lights on in the Bronx, forcing this game five.
The Dodgers still one win away from a championship.
And it's a matchup of these team's aces.
Garrett Cole for the Yankees, and Jack Flaherty for the Dodgers in a game one rematch.
Fastball, driven the other way.
Sleeping Giant has awoken!
Now it's Chisholm.
High drive, right field, goodbye!
Back-to-back in the first inning, Judge and Jazz.
Down 3-1.
That's a base hit!
Different night, same story.
Bottom of the Yankees lineup gets it done.
There's another!
Giancarlo Stanton.
The home runs.
Launches this ball left center field.
Judge on the run.
He's still going.
He's at the wall, and he's got it!
The heating up Judge, who settles under this ball, but then drops it!
And the Dodgers catch a huge break right there.
Ground ball right side.
Rizzo.
Nobody at first!
Freddie Freeman on 1-2.
Into center field, a base hit!
Two more runs will score.
The Dodgers take advantage of the bad defense from New York,
and this game is changed in the blink of an eye.
The 1-2 pitch to Teoscar Hernandez.
In the air to left center field.
Judge on the run.
Dead sprint now to the track, and it's over his head!
That's in to score!
Freddie Freeman for the plate, and this game has been turned upside down!
Bottom of the 6 as the Yankees try to force a game 6,
and it's Stanton, sending a high drive to left center field.
Hernandez, the call and the catch, and the Yankees have taken the lead.
Gavin Lux lifts a fly ball to center field.
Judge angles over.
Hernandez tags and heads for the plate.
Throw will go to third.
The Dodgers have tied the game.
Luke Weaver to Mookie Betts.
Cracked in the air to deep center field.
Judge retreats.
He'll make the grab, but the Dodgers have come all the way back
and taken the lead in game 5!
Tie and run at the plate in a 7-6 game.
The 2-2.
Breaking pitch.
Grounded to third.
Muncy's got it.
One gone in the 9th.
Bottom of the 9th inning, game 5.
Dodgers have a 3-1 series lead.
Austin Wells on a 3-2.
Swings and misses!
The Dodgers are one out away!
And it's up to the former Dodger, Alex Verdugo,
to try and keep things alive for the Yankees.
Elston Howard sends it grounded to Pee Wee Reese.
And the Dodgers, at last, are world champions.
The Dodgers win 9-3 and bring Los Angeles
to the first baseball world championship.
It's a tap back past the mound of Ollie Wills.
He grabs it.
Throw to first.
Oh!
Sandy Kopach gets his 10th strikeout,
his second consecutive shutout of the twins.
This was the 7th game of the World Series.
Los Angeles bullpen.
Watson hits it high in the air.
For the center fielder, Ken Landreau,
this should do it.
The Dodgers are the 1981 champions of baseball.
Got him!
That's it!
The Dodgers a strike away from a proper celebration.
Start the party, Los Angeles!
Your Dodgers have won the World Series!
They cap off their 8th world championship
with a comeback for the ages from down 5-0
to win it 7-6 in 5 games in this clash of the titans.
The Dodgers over the Yankees.
And Walker Buehler of all people.
I will say this.
It's one of the best managerial jobs
I've ever seen in a World Series,
in a playoffs, and Dave Roberts.
Let's talk to Dave Roberts, huh?
This trophy belongs to everybody!
What a parade!
This is the Willie Mays Most Valuable Player Award
presented by Chevrolet.
Freddie Freeman, it's all yours!
