AI GeneratedThe video discusses the future of Karl-Anthony Towns with the New York Knicks following their NBA Finals victory. While reports suggest Towns could be the \"odd man out\" due to contract constraints and the \"second apron\" luxury tax, the speaker argues that Towns is indispensable and likely to take a pay cut to keep the championship core together.
A New York Knicks insider has revealed a shocking update on the future of the team as it pertains
to one of the most important players that this front office has ever acquired.
And especially with Karl-Anthony Towns being one half of arguably the greatest duo in New
York Knicks history, hearing a new report about his future being in question with the
Knicks right now is absolutely ridiculous stuff.
We're going to go over why this is, why there are questions about this, everything going
on with Karl-Anthony Towns and his contract extension, the importance he has to this team,
and how the Knicks will retain Towns while he does have free agency coming up in just
a year with a player option that it is up in the air if he'll accept or decline.
But guys, before we dive into all that, I just need to ask you real quick to please

Digest.
So with all that being said, let's jump into the video because there is a whole lot to
talk about on Towns because look, it's no secret, Karl-Anthony Towns has cemented himself
as a New York Knicks legend.
Regardless of what the future holds, number 32 will go up into the rafters for the rest
of history because of what he was able to do on this playoff run.
Towns was one of the most important players throughout this entire run.
There is no doubt about that.
We see the Jersey Shore Knicks guy on Twitter mention that Towns led all players in plus
minus during the NBA Finals at plus 44.
His impact on the floor was impossible to ignore.
Even when he wasn't scoring, his rebounding, making plays, or guarding the other team's
best big, aka Victor Wembenyama, who he did a great job against on both sides of the ball,
he was absolutely excellent.
And he stretched to the floor and you could run the offense through him, which the Knicks
did quite often.
On top of that, he averaged 13 points in the Finals and still led everyone at plus 44.
Brunson and Wemby were both plus 8.
And as mentioned here, that is a certified winner.
So this is why the new report on Towns is so ridiculous.
James Edwards said that would New York really have this core locked in for another three
or four years?
That seems unlikely.
There's a world where Towns is the odd man out unless he takes significantly less than
the max extension.
Now this is interesting because Brian Wintour said a couple months ago, or like a month
ago now, that if Carl Anthony Towns is willing to take a little bit of a haircut, you know,
7 to 10 million over the course of multiple seasons, and Josh Hart is also extension eligible
this summer.
If both of them are willing to take a little bit of a haircut, I don't know why I'm saying
haircut and not pay cut, you could see this core standing for three, four, five years.
I get it that it's tough to not take the max money.
I understand that that's happening, but you have to look at it one specific way.
The captain of this team started a trend.
We just saw Victor Wabinyama take a very similar pay cut as well because he wants the Spurs
to be able to contend.
Brunson did that so the Knicks could put it together.
I mean, when Woj dropped that bomb that Brunson signed the extension, he started off by saying
in a very largely unprecedented move and a shocking move, Jalen Brunson has agreed to
an extension for significantly less than what he would have been able to get had he waited
a year.
Brunson took the pay cut so the Knicks could go out and acquire Karl-Anthony Towns, so
they could afford to extend Ogi Ananofi, so they could afford to extend Michaela Bridges,
so they could afford Josh Hart, so they could afford a bench.
That was why Brunson did that.
Now with the man standing next to him in Karl-Anthony Towns, it's time for Towns to do the same
thing and I know it's hard and I obviously am not an NBA player.
I do not understand what it's like to be offered a max contract and then also have to have
the entire world saying, no, don't take it.
You'll hurt our chances of winning by signing for this much money.
It's an absurd thing for me to talk about in a lot of senses when I don't know what
that feeling is like, but at the same time for the Knicks to contend and for the Knicks
to keep everybody, Towns would have to follow Jalen Brunson's mold.
Now will he do that?
He has shown some willingness to.
Michaela Bridges did it.
We've seen Mohamed Diawara sign for a pretty cheap deal.
We saw Landry Shamit take a significant pay cut to stay in New York.
Brunson set a precedent for this team, one that has largely been followed when we look
at contract extensions.
The outlier is OG and OG signed an extension ever before Jalen Brunson ever took that
pay cut to begin with.
So he was a much different story when the Knicks acquired Michaela Bridges, OG was worried
about his role.
What was going to happen now?
They have a guy similar to him.
Well, OG then was offered $40 million per year by the Knicks.
He agreed and now he is a New York Knick legend and no one else is ever going to wear number
eight on the Knicks for the rest of history.
That is what has happened and OG has been worth every penny.
But at the same time, we know the front office will pay up, but what about this whole second
apron thing?
How is the franchise going to react?
Will they want to go into the second apron?
Let's look at the last teams that were in the second apron and won the NBA Finals, the
Denver Nuggets whose bench fell apart and they have never made it outside of the second
round since, and the Boston Celtics who won the NBA Finals and then were completely upset
by the Knicks and then lost in the first round.
Very similar stuff to what happened with the Nuggets.
The Nuggets had two second round exits and then a first round exit.
Boston had a second round exit and then a first round exit to the Philadelphia 76ers
last year, giving the Knicks an absolute joke team to face in the second round of the playoffs,
which was obviously nice because it was funny to watch the Knicks beat up on the 76ers.
Did the 76ers win that series for some weirdo?
Who knows?
Who cares?
Overall, we look at Karl-Anthony Towns.
The man has been absolutely awesome for the Knicks.
There's no doubt about it that he has been great.
Last season, he put up 20 points per game and 12 rebounds.
He scored the ball less and there was a lot of questions surrounding Towns and his season
and him not fully knowing his role under Mike Brown.
His defense was better, but it only shot 37% from three, which was lower.
It didn't look like the greatest season numbers wise.
And then when you look at the playoff numbers, if you weren't watching the games, you might
say, oh, how efficient and how helpful was Towns?
Well, the answer is insane.
He passed the eye test with flying colors and even though he wasn't scoring the same
amount, we did see Cat go out there and do everything that we could have hoped for Towns
to do.
In those 19 games, he only put up 16 points per game, but it wasn't about the points scored.
It was about the efficiency, 55 and 45 from the field and from three, respectively.
1.3 blocks, 1.3 steals per game, 91% from the free throw line, 16 points, 10 and a half
rebounds, five assists.
The man had the offense ran through him and even so much so that LeBron talked about it.
Now, LeBron mentioned, as you know, he does have that Mind the Game podcast, that he said
the Knicks were diversified, was a whole lot of Jalen Brunson P&R, and Mike Brown brought
Cat in a pinch post, didn't allow you to sit on one action, and the highest playoff point
differential of all time.
More than 14.5 points is insane.
Glue guys, Josh Hart, or Jose, Josh Hart, Mikael Bridges, but unsung hero of the finals
was OG.
Okay, no, LeBron, OG wasn't the unsung hero.
We all know he's a hero, but at the same time, we do look at where the Knicks are.
We look at where Karl-Anthony Towns is, and yeah, it obviously will be tough to keep this
core together.
They just won an NBA finals together, and still weird to say, but overall, they have
a lot going for them.
There's a lot to like about where the New York Knicks are right now as a franchise.
This is a team that is set up to continue winning as long as this core stays together.
I know everyone feels that way about every finals team, and yes, it always feels that
way, and who knows what the future holds, but at the same time, we did see Karl-Anthony
Towns play an imperative role.
We saw that he can't be replaced, so I don't see him as the odd man out at all.
I think the Knicks should find other ways.
At the same time, I also truly do believe, from the bottom of my heart, that Karl-Anthony
Towns will take a pay cut because he understands the importance of this team.
Guys, at the end of the day though, no matter what happens in the future, never forget how
great this moment has felt throughout this time.
I mean, I was just thinking about the other day, the joy that it felt for the Knicks to
go out there and win the finals.
It still has not worn off.
It'll be like this for a very long time.
We're never going to forget this moment.
Obviously, we all want another one, and another one, and another one down the line, and eventually
the Knicks will win another NBA Finals, whether it's next year, whether it's five years from
now, whether it's 10 years from now, whether it's 20 years from now, whether it's 53 years
from now, but hopefully we don't have to wait as long as last time.
Honestly, it was the greatest feeling in the world, and I'm still on cloud nine, so I don't
think we should start to panic about anything right now.
Let's enjoy this.
Let's have this moment.
Let's hold this moment tight because you don't know how often.
I mean, so many people who are Knicks fans are also Mets and Jets fans, and the Jets
have been once since 69, the Mets have been once since 86, I mean, even the Yankees now
since 2009 is a massive drought by that standard as well, so overall, I am just so happy that
the New York Knicks are in position right here to really, really have won us this championship.
Never let the feeling go away, and I do think Carl Anthony Towns is going to be here for
the long haul because I don't think he wants to go anywhere else at the end of the day.
I think he wants to be in New York, so we'll see what happens.
