William, in a situation like that where you don't come into the game until the seventh inning,
is that a harder at-bat in the ninth?
Yeah, definitely. It's a little bit harder, you know. I'm not necessarily accustomed to
coming into the games later on in the game, so I think it makes it a little bit more difficult,
but nonetheless it's something that, you know, I think you kind of have to do and get better at.
Yeah, I think it makes it a little bit more difficult, but yeah, I think I was able to put
that swing on. How do you mentally prepare for that, knowing that your day is probably going
to be just sitting there watching, then all of a sudden you realize you are going to have to go in?
No, I've learned, you know, I've been able to learn this year, be able to go to the cages and
like the court a little bit, and kind of get a little bit of my routine in. Maybe, you know,
there's a chance that, you know, it could be a pull-off day, but just being able to stay loose,
make sure I'm ready whenever, if it does happen and there is a possibility that presents itself
What does your approach become there after you get to two strikes pretty quickly against Fairbanks?
Stay short, you know, stay short is what I was thinking, you know, Fairbanks is a
tremendous closer, so, you know, fortunately I was able to battle enough, battle to get into
two strikes and I really hit that point, I'm just trying to stay short to it and put the ball
in play. He loved to break the ball and he's done that for me. Were you surprised at all he meant
breaking the ball? No, he was really fantastic. Mark was saying that he was hoping that you
gained more confidence. Is this something that could mean more confidence for you when you look
back at this?
No, I think it's, you know, fortunately at this point in my career, you know,
the experience has really helped me a lot, you know, just knowing how to manage the day-to-day,
you know, of everything and just knowing what the game brings, so, you know, now
five years roughly of Major League experience, it's been able to learn, you know, how to handle
that and, you know, thank you for the experience that you've given me. Is that the most you've
enjoyed a battle with?
Yeah, it's the only thing that passed through my mind at the moment, you know, just enjoying the
game out there, so definitely the adrenaline of the game, the adrenaline of the moment,
you know, it's very exciting there, so it's in my mind. What does that feel like though,
hitting that and then the explosion of the crowd, what does it feel like?
No, it's incredible, you know, I think it's something that you have to enjoy because it's
not something that's always going to happen, but it's an incredible feeling and I think one that,
you know, anybody would love to feel on a daily basis there, so it feels really good and it's
great.
