Troy Aikman reveals his favorite NFL quarterback and it surprised fans

What if an NFL legend picked neither Patrick Mahomes nor Josh Allen as his favorite quarterback? Like, follow, and discover the surprising choice that sparked debate across football fans. When Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman was asked to name his favorite quarterback in today's NFL, many expected to hear Patrick Mahomes or Josh Allen. Instead, Aikman gave an answer that caught football fans by surprise. Speaking before a Monday Night Football broadcast in late 2024, Aikman revealed that Joe Burrow is not only his favorite quarterback in the league, but maybe my favorite player of all time. That's extraordinary praise from one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history. What makes Burrow stand out? According to Aikman, it's his anticipation and old-school style of play. He believes Burrow has the kind of pocket presence, decision-making, and toughness that would have fit perfectly in the NFL of the 1990s. In today's fast-paced game, Aikman sees those qualities as increasingly rare. The numbers back up much of that admiration. During the 2024 season, Burrow led the NFL in passing yards per game and passing touchdowns despite Cincinnati's disappointing record, even in losses he consistently produced at an elite level, proving that quarterback wins don't always tell the full story when a team struggles defensively. Burrow's career has also shown remarkable consistency whenever he's healthy. He helped lead the Bengals to consecutive AFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance while becoming one of the league's most efficient passers. Although injuries interrupted his 2025 season, Burrow still returned to earn another Pro Bowl selection and continues to own the highest career completion percentage in NFL history. Cincinnati has also doubled down on its belief in him by restructuring his contract ahead of the 2026 season to strengthen the roster around him. For Troy Aikman, Joe Burrow represents more than elite statistics. He embodies the timeless qualities of great quarterback play, regardless of the era.
