Is color fill not working in Procreate? …

Here's the top 5 of mistakes that get made in Procreate and a way to solve or fix them.
Number one. Issues with filling shapes. Do you ever have that issue that when you make a shape
and you fill it, that you get this this weird little edge? It took me a while to figure this
one out and I kept just painting over the edges to fix it but there's an easier way.
Instead of painting over the edges, next time you fill a shape, first drag in the color and
then hold your pen in place so you can move it to the right or left to adjust the color drop
threshold here at the top and when you move it up you'll see that that little edge will disappear.
Another issue when filling shapes is that paint is spilling out all over your canvas. It can help
to lower your color drop threshold instead of turning it up but also always make sure that
your shapes are closed. So your shapes need to be either closed or your line needs to go from
left to right on your canvas touching the sides of your canvas. So let's say you're creating these
mountains because you're following a tutorial of mine and you drag in the color but it spills out
all over and it doesn't matter if you adjust the color drop threshold, it keeps spilling out.
Then be sure to check out that you're not zoomed in on your canvas. It might be that you're zoomed
in and that your lines aren't connected to the sides at all. So as soon as you close them on
the sides moving all the way to the sides of the canvas you won't be having that problem anymore.
Number two. Clipping mask is not working. You have set your layer to clipping mask but still
when you draw your shapes go outside of the shape you want them to stay in. What's going on here?
When you go to your layer menu you see that you have indeed clipped your layer to the other layer.
Now the issue here is that this layer is merged with the background color. So this entire layer
is filled with paint. Clipping mask only works when the outside of the shape is transparent.
So make sure that when you check your layers that when you look at your shape that the outside is
all gray. There's no paint there. And you can check by tapping the layer turning on alpha lock
and then you'll see a little checkerboard pattern around your shape. And when you then use clipping
mask whatever you draw it'll only show up on the shape. Number three. Pixelation. You've been
working so hard on your painting but when you look at it you see all these pixels. Now a painting in
Procreate it'll always consist of pixels. If you zoom in very close then eventually you will see
pixels. But when you see pixels when you zoom in only a little or when you're not even zoomed in at
all then something is going on. Your canvas is not big enough. And you can check the size of your
canvas by going to the wrench then to canvas then to canvas information and then when you go to
dimensions over here you see that this canvas is 600 by 800 pixels and that's very small. To get a
less pixelated look I would go for something in the thousands. This canvas is 3000 by 4000 pixels
and when you zoom in it won't see many pixels. You see that it's nice and crisp. And to change the
amount of pixels in your canvas you can go to the wrench again to canvas and then to crop and resize.
If your canvas is too small then you can go to settings use resample canvas and then adjust
these settings. Just make sure that you do this at the beginning of your painting process because if
your painting is already finished and you make it bigger it'll still look pixelated. Number four.
Your colors look different. The colors will always look slightly different across devices and they
will also look different because I am using a lighting setup. I'm recording my iPad so small
differences are natural. But if your drawing looks like this then something is going on. Now of course
this is an extreme example but always make sure that you are using the same color profile. To check
your color profile you can go to the wrench then to canvas and then to canvas information again
and then go to color profile. I always have my color profile set to srgbiec long code and if
your color profile is set to display p3 for example then your colors will look different.
So you can either change your color profile over here tap the color profile then tap done
or you can make sure that you have the right color profile when you set up your canvas.
To set up a new custom canvas you can go to your gallery and then to the plus
and then tap this little plus icon here and here you can set the size of your canvas. Make sure
it's big enough so you don't get the pixelation issue and here under color profile you can set
the color profile and then when you tap create you will have a canvas that has the right color
profile. You can also give it a name like color profile and tap create and then in the gallery
you will always be able to find your color profile canvas so you can use it again and again.
Number five your selection tool isn't working. Let's say you're trying to follow this tutorial
about creating this landscape and you want to use the selection tool the s shape ribbon set
to freehand and you want to add some more texture here on this mountain side. You want it to be
inside of the selection and when you go to your brush it's pink or whatever color it's not a
selection anymore. What's going on here is you have the selection set to color fill. Always make sure
that you turn off color fill before you start making a selection that way you will be able to
make a selection and then go to your brush and then inside of that selection you will be able to
paint and add that extra texture to your mountain for example. This was the top five mistakes that
got made in procreate and ways to solve them. Is your issue missing in this video and you're still
