The St. Louis Blues are quietly plotting something massive as one player in particular who's still
available will change everything for the Blues this season and Doug Armstrong looks like he's
returned from fishing for the summer and some big moves are on the horizon for this team. We're
going to break down all of that in this episode of Blues Digest but before we do that a quick

videos together soon obviously summer some vacation stuff going on but we want to keep you guys up to
date with everything that's happening with the St. Louis Blues because your support over 3,500 of
you guys subscribe to the channel now has been unbelievable and it's been a very eventful summer
so far for the St. Louis Blues coming off of a pretty successful season I would say and obviously
new logo new color scheme or alternate logos whatever you want to call it new you know color
way all of that stuff and that's all going up around the arena so it's a pretty exciting time
heading into next season with some more youth on the team obviously some veteran guys that came in
last season like a Cam Fowler who made a huge difference and of course the goaltending is
solidified we know that but there's one player that is still available on the market and I think
the Blues are plotting something big to sign this player but it's not going to happen the way
everyone thinks it's going to happen and who am I talking about well it is Victor Olofsson and this
is from Michael DeRosa on the Hockey Writers and he says the St. Louis Blues could use another
winger and he's not necessarily wrong they could use another winger even though they have a bunch
of players obviously they just traded Zach Bull Duke we covered that a couple weeks ago when they
got Logan Mayhew probably you know a necessary evil in a trade of course like you never want
to see Zach Bull Duke and the high upside that he showed at 22 years old away but Logan Mayhew
you probably needed a player like that you need to get younger on the blue line but all signs are
now pointing towards Victor Olofsson who is still for some reason on the market a UFA and I do wonder
if the St. Louis Blues are targeting this player in particular if you look at the wings you must
be thinking Darius what are you talking about the Blues don't need another winger they could use
another guy on you know either the left side or the right side to add some more scoring punch
throughout the lineup and it's not going to come at a significant cost and it's not you know it
can't it really can't although you know we'll get to it in a second they could afford it but
it's got to be a little unconventional they got to go about it in a different way of course right
up against the cap right now they can't even sign a league minimum contract so you're probably
thinking how is this going to work and obviously let's jump into you know how Olofsson fits first
then we'll talk about how it's going to work because it's pretty interesting and I actually
do believe that they could sign Olofsson I think this actually makes a lot of sense for the team
and they can easily easily do it and here it is right here so if they sign Olofsson you know he
would offer them another solid option on the wing of course this is from the hockey writers again
same article third line right wing spot as a 30 year old again this guy's a scorer he can put the
puck in the back of the net he is a sniper that's exactly what he is so he can add some more goal
scoring to the bottom half of this lineup which any team around the league would want of course
so how is this going to work we just saw you know with the salary cap the blues are up right up
against it well keep in mind tory crew goes on LTIR when the season starts so the blues are going
to have over six million dollars to work with once the season starts which is a pretty significant
amount of money uh and Olofsson is not going to count you know towards that much of the cap so
they can definitely sign a player like this once the season starts so how do you get around that
a PTO they're going to sign him to a tryout the fact that Olofsson has made it this far in the
offseason without a contract tells me that a team like the blues is going to sign him to a PTO he's
going to come into camp see if he can earn that spot on the roster and if he does which i do
believe that he probably would i think it's more likely that a guy like Olofsson would make the
roster over some of the younger players on the team not because they're not great but the blues
are in such a great position and they have such a luxury of not having to rush players through their
development put them down the AHL continue to develop we're okay up here right now we got some
NHL talent so um you know i do see him making the team if he comes in on a PTO over some of the
younger guys and then if you know he does make the team sign him to a regular contract and you're off
and running you have the salary cap space as soon as the season starts with crew going on LTR now
last season what did Olofsson make we'll get into his stats in a second as well because obviously
that plays into all of this he's going to offer some goal scoring though that's the biggest thing
last year's cap hit just over 1 million dollars 1 million dollars 75 000 uh and obviously he's
going to be 30 years old he is a ufa he's a left shot he's not the heaviest guy but again he can
his job is to put the puck in the back of the net that is what he made last season what is
he going to make moving forward well if you look at scotia stat projections who
since july 1st has been pretty bang on if they've been wrong it's been by like a year
or maybe a couple thousand dollars a couple hundred thousand dollars so they've been pretty
bang on they have them right now at a 2.4 million dollar contract over two years if i'm the blues
i'm doing that all day and for one simple reason because again he's going to add some scoring to
the bottom of your lineup and you know when you head into the playoffs when you head into
you know the stretch down the stretch in the regular season from february on this is going
to be a weird season you're going to need some scoring this is a guy in just 56 games last season
you know 15 goals 14 assists 29 points so about a half a point a game player not bad for a 2.4
million dollar cap hit i would imagine him coming at a little bit less so this is a guy that again
he's not putting the puck in the back of the net at an incredible rate he's not going to score
45 goals for you or anything but he can offer i think if he's healthy plays the whole season
you know 20 goals he can offer you 20 goals in your bottom six and i think that is actually
really good value for a cap hit like that considering the team that you have on paper
right now i mean we've been talking about it for so long at this point you know the entire roster
again this is the puckpedia lines by the way but we understand this is probably not what the lines
are going to look like don't don't you know blame us for this this is just what's on puckpedia but
if you look at the lineup i mean you have an embarrassment of riches right now and this is
not even including some of the guys like carbono that they just drafted who are going to try and
make a push to make the team you got snuggaroo like holloway right like so many guys that are
going to be pushing for the top of this lineup that you can fit a guy like an olefsen in the
bottom six and he can kind of hide away do his thing score some goals 15 to 20 goals a year
at a two million dollar ish cap hit i think makes a ton of sense for this team where does that leave
guys like sunquist again i don't think he would be on the third line anyway um and even think
about this as well you have an embarrassment of riches we've been talking about davorski could
even come up and spend some time in the a uh the nhl excuse me this year barring uh with with
injuries and stuff like that because that happens over the course of a season if you want to move
off joseph you can we've talked about it we see you guys in the comments right we've talked about
it at nauseam you could move off that contract in joseph once the season starts as well and
their salaries would almost cancel each other out assuming that olison would get 2.2 2.4 something
like that somewhere in that range and if you look at olison again not often do you see a capable
sniper coming off of a 15 goal season on the unemployment block a month into free agency and
that was this was yesterday this was tweeted out yesterday we got a month left until basically
training camps open this guy's not signed i think it's going to be a pto i think it's going to be
to the st louis blues and he's going to add a lot of depth scoring to this team you look at all the
advanced analytics this guy could be a perfect absolutely perfect fit on this roster again look
at this like this is phenomenal phenomenal again in a sheltered role all these things he's not
playing top line minutes or anything like that and i'm not saying to do that but you're adding some
depth scoring this is a phenomenal option i feel like a lot of teams are going to be you know
trying to grab this guy on a pto i think it's also very weird that he has not signed yet like i think
that there's a lot of dominoes that have to fall around the league we're having arbitration cases
close up uh finally on august 3rd this coming sunday around the league and then uh with nick
robertson of the toronto maple leafs and then you know beyond that jack roslevich hasn't signed
yet i feel like once roslevich signs you know the floodgates will open with a lot of different
trades moves that will free up you know for certain teams a lot of salary cap space maybe
they look at signing an olive sin outright but if you you know if this bleeds a couple more weeks
and it's looking like you could sign him to a pto go ahead sign him to a pto bring him into the camp
he looks good you sign him and you'll have that extra cap space once ltir or tory krug excuse me
his contract kicks in so let me know how you feel in the comments about victor olive sin coming over
to the st louis blues i think it makes a ton of sense i think the blues are quietly plotting
something crazy heading into this season let me know how you feel in the comments and if you
haven't yet hit the subscribe button so you can stay up to date with everything st louis blues
