We're back it is 8.35 now back with more of our countdown to
the odyssey the colossal scale stunning visuals and
storytelling of Christopher Nolan's new film transports
viewers into homers epic poem and we're catching up with the
cast all week and we're going to start with let's start with
this award-winning group Charlize Theron and Samantha
Morton they represent just a few of the mythical elements
Odysseus faces on his journey home.
Ladies welcome welcome.
You're.
It's amazing, it's so it's so special.
I saw it last week it is it is amazing and visually it's it's
quite stunning. I did not realize this until a few days
ago, none of you are actually in scenes together, but you're
doing the press tour together is this the most time the 3 of
you spent together.
Yeah, it's been great. Yeah, nice. Yeah, it's truly an epic
film, it's filmed on several continents will show you
Samantha where did you film which countries.
I found in Scotland which for me was a bit like oh really.
That's when my foster parents live safe for me to go see my
parents and then not about to get some fish and chips and
yeah, so Scotland. I kind of popped in everywhere. I popped
in and out of everywhere which was so special, I mean some of
the locations I feel so lucky to be able to have explored
because I otherwise maybe wouldn't even know they existed
at some of the most gorgeous locations. And yeah, I also
felt bad because I was just like people have been going on
this odyssey will like working so hard going location occasion
or just pop in play guys, you know, but it is really I mean
it's extraordinary and surely so you.
So when I met with Chris he's like I'm thinking of shooting
this part in Bora Bora or Fiji and I was like say no more.
When do we go. But we ended up in a beautiful place, it's
actually the windsurfing capital of the world. So it's just a
little windy. But it was in Morocco. It was beautiful.
It was a lot when the in some of those things I saw yeah,
it was not it was not more of or yeah, this is how you he gets
you. It's like she likes the tropics let's sell around that
and all of your scenes are exclusively with Matt Damon and
and this was the first time like 2526 years and you work
for 30 years, I think so yeah, legend of Agra van was that
like reuniting with with Matt it was amazing, you know, I I
don't I think that was maybe for me the biggest surprise was
how
sentimental it started to feel like we did the first take and
I just went.
My God we did this when you were babies and here we are 2
old no humans, you know, he's just one of my favorite people
and it's rare that you get to do something like that you know
to experience the same experience like 30 years later
and with someone as great and as wonderful, he's just good
people, he's lovely people to be around them.
We're also happy for him that he got this opportunity a
better man couldn't have gotten it.
And he said he shines again like no surprise your first day
on set it's the sacking of Troy, I know it's really
the elaborate scene in the film, yeah, I mean it was it
was I honestly I mean without you know kind of the kind of
corny saying is like it felt like a dream, but it really did
I think I was on a night shoot on you for you like the night
before and then I traveled there and I had never seen such
scale, I mean we like we keep talking about the scale the
magnitude the the detail from every single performer also
everyone's giving so much there's I've never seen so many
background performers stunt people everyone is there's fire
there's lights that you know all the all the things and
people are giving so much and so they that's a high that's a
high stakes high pressure first day I also read on that first
day your partner Tom yeah, he was there to support you yes,
was that love because I was so nervous. First day on a Chris
Nolan said I want to and everything is you know moving
in such a level, I don't want to be the thing that's holding
it up, you know. So he he came on his day off and I could like
it's like you know having your someone in the wings you get to
look over and they're like you've got a good so it was
nice to have that support some of them want to embarrass you
for just a moment here. I'm going to read something that
Christopher Nolan said about you after one of your takes and
this is a quote verbatim
after one of Samantha's takes the crew gave her a great round
of applause. The last time that happened was with Heath ledger
on the dark night.
That's that's a price.
Well, yeah, yeah, I think that going back to what you just
saying the crew as well have been on this odyssey and so you
have a connection with the crew with a really with each of our
characters, but also without giving anything away. There's a
scene that I do that people cannot believe is not CGI so I
think the clap was obviously it was lovely that they're
clapping says see.
But there was also this sense that it's certainly the special
for everything that we did came together and it was a to me,
I'll never forget it and it was a beautiful moment of
in cinema, you know, yeah, it is an extraordinary.
It is it is well done. Thank you thank you thank you all 3
of you. We also should mention that we're going to hear from
the co-star Robert Pattinson in the 3rd hour. Matt Damon will
be here tomorrow as well and oh by the way the odyssey it's
from our sister company, universal pictures, it hits
theaters this Friday.
