I'm boston 25 news reporter Daniel Coats on scene in Copley Square in downtown
Boston where Tuesday we had a large and loud crowd demanding action on the front
steps of the Boston Public Library after another fatal shooting this week across
the country involving ICE agents.
Calls for change in Copley Square.
With 24 hours notice dozens on the steps of the Boston Public Library
responded to ICE's killing of a 26-year-old Colombian man in Maine on Monday.
It sparked demonstrations across the country now including Boston.
We are so outraged seeing another one of our community members
murdered yesterday right here in New England.
I am enraged and full of grief.
Monday's fatal shooting in Biddeford comes after a 52-year-old man
was shot and killed in Texas on his way to work by ICE agents who were pursuing his car.
Parents, husbands, loved ones being gunned down in the street.
It's heartbreaking and it's also outraging.
DHS claims they tried to stop Johan Sebastian Duran-Guerrero.
They claim he attempted to flee and that an agent fired out of fear for public safety.
Advocates and families say Duran-Guerrero had valid work authorization and no active removal orders.
As you can hear we were chanting for ICE out.
It's important for all of us to stand up and fight back.
Massachusetts GOP Chair Amy Carnavalo supports DHS's decision
to temporarily halt non-urgent vehicle stops following these recent incidents.
Adding public safety is not a political issue.
It's a matter of common sense.
It's time to put the safety of our communities above partisan politics.
And organizers tell me there's more to come here in Boston.
They're planning a second demonstration that will be held this Saturday
at 4 p.m. right here in Copley Square.
On Zeta Boston, I'm Daniel Coats for your local station, Boston 25 News.
