My name is Doug Burns, a.k.a. Doug Lust, and I do musical recaps of every single Knicks
game.
My job is to amplify this moment for Knicks fans and make it all about what we want the
most, which is success for our basketball team.
Well, I started this journey because I saw a community online who was as obsessive about
the Knicks as I was.
My friends and family, most of them, not all of them, couldn't handle the constant 24-hour,
seven-days-a-week discussion of the Knicks.
I have actually never met anyone more obsessed with a sports team in my life than Doug.
Over the top, in the best way, aggressive, fun, head-banging.
When the Knicks got Carl Anthony Towns and Mikael Bridges, to my eyes, they were ready
to contend.
And I said, I need to make musical sports content that shows how I feel about this team
and brings people joy.
I think that was about as well as he takes a loss, but obviously he was upset.
And I think in those moments, the initial feeling is like, I don't want to do this ----,
I don't want to make this recap.
But I think that moment passes, a second, it's like, okay, you know what, we got to
do this.
As soon as we started walking, we started having fun, talking, Doug, his lyric brain
starts going and it's really amazing just to witness.
He just starts spewing out these lyrics about stuff that happened in the game.
And connecting them to the song, in other words, that the parody we're doing and finding
these little things where it makes him laugh or makes both of us laugh or whatever.
And yeah, it's just this beautiful, creative flow he goes on.
Well, as you saw today here, we are at B&H Dairy on 2nd Avenue.
We got old Jewish men and the great musician, Robert Randolph, who wrote the Friday Night
Knicks song, to be in our video today.
Because this is the final.
To me, every finals moment, every game is the biggest game in Knicks history.
And my work has to reflect that.
And I think I've successfully done that throughout these playoffs.
I don't feel like a champion yet because this video is not finished.
But when it's finished, I'm going to feel as tall as the Empire State Building.
I mean, this is the truest of truest Dubs you're ever going to see.
And I'm just, I'm beyond proud.
He's the best bass player I've ever played with.
And he will watch the Knicks every game.
He is the most committed to both of those things that I've ever seen.
I'm grateful that any musician, any human is lucky to meet somebody like that.
All the cool people that I've met that have the same love for the Knicks that I do.
All the musicians from my professional life outside of this that have come in and contributed.
My friends Jake and Miles who have given so much of their time.
So the whole community that in my life that's sprung up around this.
All these amazing people that I've met through doing this.
Is the most significant part of doing it for me.
And that's what I'll look back on.
I know Doug as this incredible musician, incredible artist.
And ultimately I think Doug should be making records that he really loves of his own music.
Whether it's funny stuff or not.
Everything that Doug could possibly want to be happening is happening right now.
It's just like, who's going to pay him?
