AI GeneratedThe speaker discusses the fluid nature of watch collecting, identifying three timepieces he has recently neglected and three that have become permanent fixtures in his current daily rotation. He also shares a practical tip on sizing rubber straps using a sharp knife rather than scissors to avoid deforming the material.
So at the present moment I'm currently sizing up a couple of Sertina straps. In order to do this
you have to essentially cut the rubber strap which can be a bit of a pain in the arse but once it's
on it looks really really cool. I'm saving these for a different video that's coming very soon. I'm
pretty excited about it but to the point of the video as I was doing this I started thinking to
myself what watches am I actually wearing right now? What watches are sitting in my collection
and kind of gathering dust and what watches have kind of traveled into my everyday rotation. Watch
collecting is very flexible. These things kind of come and go very very fast and things change very
very quickly and I've discovered three watches that are in my rotation permanently right now
that I absolutely love and three watches that I have been neglecting that I wouldn't have expected
to have neglected. So let's begin with the watches that I have been neglecting at the moment because
well that's kind of sad. Also top tip time top tip time didn't even mean to rhyme there but top tip
for anyone firstly don't brandish your knife that is very very silly but top tip for anyone that's
sizing up a rubber strap and needs to cut it don't cut it with scissors because when you cut it with
scissors sometimes it can kind of deform the rubber and it doesn't sit quite right. Always do it with
a really really sharp knife like this one at the moment and be very careful in the way that you cut
it because then what happens is you have an extraordinarily straight line instead of what
could have been a bit of a mess. But the first watch that I have not fallen out of love with
but it's just not in my rotation anymore and it was for a very very long time has to be this. This
is the Seiko SPB381J1. Now I totally fell in love with this watch in Silwesi of all places in
Indonesia. It was my tropical vibes watch and I absolutely I still really really love it but
the thing is the last few trips that I've been on are to Finland, are to Iceland, are to Norway
and these places are very very cold and I just feel like the tropical vibes of that SPB381 they
weren't really fitting with the scene. Now these things change all the time and I'm sure it'll come
back into my rotation soon-ish but at the moment it's just not there. There is another piece to
that and the other piece to that is that it is a chunk on the wrist. It is a big big boy. Now I'm
not going to go over all the specs because I have done that in another video but it is a chunky
monkey and I just feel like I've got other watches that fit that little bit better with my rather
slim wristies. I've got 6.5 inch wristies. Okay that actually looks much better already and the
next watch that I've realized that I just haven't been wearing half as much as I used to wear has
to be this and it's an interesting one because it used to be my literal everyday wearer. This is the
Tudor Black Bay Heritage Smiley edition. Now this edition is much more vintage nowadays. It is
actually known as a bit of a collector's model and there's a couple of different reasons for that.
One is this is the last Tudor Black Bay Heritage to use the ETA movement. Now what that meant was
that the case was slightly slimmer which is very attractive to us collectors. You then have other
little details like the rose on the dial instead of the shield and also the smiley text at the
six o'clock mark which is where this watch gets its nickname from. Now I have bruised and battered
this thing. I have used this watch so so much and I've got a serious amount of wear out of it but
the thing about it is I put another watch on in the scenario that I normally wear this Tudor
and I just fell back in love with it and then a little swap happened where I stopped wearing the
Tudor and started wearing one of the watches that I'll come on to in a second and also I think the
fact that it has those vintage flares kind of gives me a bit of anxiety to wear it now because
it is getting older. I mean this watch is like over 10 years old. It was one of my first vintage
watches or first I mean it was modern at the time but it was one of my first modern sports watches
from Tudor and honestly I remember getting this for like two and a half thousand pounds.
They're now up at four thousand pounds which is just crazy. Also I feel like because I have the
Black Bay Burgundy on the bracelet it's maybe what is pushing me away from it a little bit so I think
that if I switch this onto a NATO strap which I have done before I'll get more wear out of it so
that probably is coming and there's a bunch of cool NATOs that I want to put on it which I might
do a whole video on that actually. Let me know in the comments if you want to see that. Jesus this
is so difficult to do. No! It's so annoying these little spring bars. Right I'm gonna do this one
more time and then we need to speed on with the video but it's the most frustrating thing ever.
Oh my god! Okay so this was a terrible idea trying to size this in front of everyone. I feel the
pressure. The next watch that I have to say really surprised me but I've not been wearing it half as
much as I should be and quarter as much as I used to is this. It's the Amiga Seamaster 300 meters
commonly known as the king and is it still the king? Yes of course it's still the king but
even the king can temporarily lose its crown. The thing is I've been wearing the Seamaster for like
oh my god it must be like four years now and within that four years it has taken up I would
say 75% of my rest time. Actually probably even more than that now that I think about it. I just
wanted a change. It's not that I don't like the watch. It's not that I am moving away from the
it's just that I wanted a change. That's it. Literally that is it. So I kind of quickly
started putting on something a little bit different. Something that we'll move on to
in a second that has quite pleasant proportions and as I started wearing that I found myself
drifting slowly away from the king which is the Seamaster but just as I'm doing right now a strap
can make all the difference. So my plan for the Seamaster to bring it back into my rotation is to
change the strap to something just that little bit better. That little bit bolder shall we say.
Okay did I just get that? No it popped out again. Yes I finally got that half of it. I can't believe
I just did that and it's the wrong way round. Oh my god I can't believe I just done that. I've
literally just put it on the wrong way around. Well that's embarrassing and now we move on to
in which there are three. There are three watches that I'm wearing most at the moment
and one or two of them might surprise you. One of them definitely won't because I'm wearing it
at the moment. This is the Tudor Ranger 36 mil. I found that little knack that actually helps get
these on which I've not been doing at the moment but normally when I was working in the Chisholm
Hunter showroom we have like a little tool deck that you can slide these into that makes it so
much easier and on that note this isn't even a plug but if you are wanting to change your strap
or get your strap cut or whatever and you don't want to do what I'm doing right now in so much
pain come into the store because the guys at Chisholm Hunter can do this super super quick
and they've got nimble fingers which I clearly don't. Actually scrap that maybe I do. Yes okay
that is one part of it. So the Tudor Ranger 36 mil was my 100k watch. It's the watch that I got
to celebrate 100,000 subscribers and again I just want to say a huge thank you to you guys for that.
That is unbelievable but the thing about the Tudor Ranger 36 that I've got on right now is the
proportions are god damn perfect. It is honestly probably one of the best watches I've worn in
terms of sizing. Top that off with the sentimental attachment and also the fact that it's an outdoors
watch and I, if you guys know me, you'll know that I'm an outdoors guy so it literally fits
every category that you put it into and this has been, I'd say it's getting probably 50%
of my rest time right now and up at 25% we have the watch that kind of replaced the Tudor Black
Bay Heritage and that is this. This is the Hamilton Khaki Field but it's not just the
Hamilton Khaki Field, it's the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition. Yes I got that as well guys
have a look at this. So if I take my watch off now and show you this was totally sagging but it
should hypothetically probably need one more out of it. I've also got it on the wrong way around
which is quite embarrassing. Actually the strap is the wrong way around which is also quite
embarrassing but it's still a little bit saggy but I'd probably say a little half more of the
rubber strap out of it and that is pretty perfect. Take a look at this. Also is that watch not really
sexy? This is one of the new Sertinas that I'm going to be filming and I'm very excited about it
actually. So the Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition has a serious nostalgic link to me when it comes
to hiking, when it comes to outdoors, when it comes to adventures, when it comes to everything
that I love to do in life and it stems back from the time that I wore it in Banff. The long time
actually I wore it in Banff and I just fell in love with the vibe of this watch. Given have I
ever actually used the compass bezel? No I have a phone just like everyone else but the fact that
it can do it, it's pretty cool. Also something interesting that happened when I first got this
model is that I switched on the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanicals watch, the NATO strap essentially
for the bracelet. I switched them over because at that point the Expedition didn't have a NATO strap
it was just a bracelet and I totally, I bet you I didn't set the trend. Actually I definitely
didn't set the trend but after I did this and after I posted the video Hamilton released a
NATO strap version which happened to be the green NATO strap version on the white dial which I had
in 37 millimeters and I take full credit for it even though I know it probably wasn't me.
I take full credit but this watch is definitely getting like 25 percent of my rest time now
and the reason being is that I go outdoors with it, I go hikes with it, I explore with it
and it has that nostalgic connection plus the NATO strap makes a big difference.
So I think in the future when I get my NATO on the Tudor Black Bay Heritage it might replace that
but at the moment this is definitely in the rotation quite strongly and on that note I'm
actually going to just flip this bracelet around because it's quite embarrassing that I got it
I got it wrong and that's actually one of the good things about these new Sertinas
is the quick release bracelet is super super easy to use and there we go very very quick
very easy to use quick release function. I've only got three of these bracelets now to size
which is going to be fun but as I was saying the last watch in the rotation that definitely has
another 25 percent and that's saying something because this was a really special watch to me
has to be this this is the Amiga Speedmaster Moonwatch and it's actually the Apollo 11
edition. Now for me before this was a special occasions watch I literally wore this twice a
year if I was lucky and that's saying something like really I was super cautious about this watch
and then it was actually one of you guys that said Harrison you do realize that scratches aren't
really that bad a thing on your watch it means that you love it it means that you've cared for
it it means you have a connection with it and it kind of stuck with me because I was definitely
nervous about wearing this for the reason that it's the most expensive watch in my collection
and I would scratch it so I started wearing it a lot and I honestly can't take it off whenever I
go somewhere that I'm dressing nice now whether it be on a date with someone I'm seeing or whatever
it might be I wear this watch and I think it looks amazing the combination of gold and steel
the dressy feel it's something very different for my lifestyle because I am an outdoorsy guy but
this just fits right now and that's the watches that are in my rotation but let me know below
what watches are in your rotation I've got to go and size another couple of these
gonna be a pain in the bottom but I will see you guys very soon
