The Watch I Am Giving My Son

Dear Leon, I'm so excited for you. Ahead of you lies the long path of life, growth, and discovery. Right now, the magnitude of it all cannot possibly make sense yet. And truthfully, as a first-time father, I'm not all that far ahead of you in understanding it myself. What I do know is this, there is nothing I look forward to more than watching you experience life in your own way, through both the quiet moments and the unforgettable ones. To mark this new journey, I felt appropriate to hold a gift in reserve, a watch. As you grow older, you'll see me wearing this piece from time to time, carrying it with me through life, always with the intention that one day, it will become yours. Engraved on its back, above your initials, is a simple phrase, stay curious. I will never pretend to have all the answers, but this is one principle I hope stays with you throughout your life. As you grow, you'll learn that the world can be both unforgiving and beautiful. Finding your place within it will not always come easily. In your earliest years, there will be endless questions of why, the kind born from wonder, innocence, and a desire to understand everything around you.
