Video Summary
AI GeneratedRobyn transforms her living room for summer by blending thrifted finds with new decor to achieve a cozy \"cottage feel\" inspired by the Nancy Meyers aesthetic. The process involves iterative styling of the coffee table and mantel, light cleaning, and integrating sentimental furniture to create a warm, inviting space for her family.
Hi friends, welcome back.
If you happen to be new today, I'm Robyn.
Welcome to our home.
Welcome to my channel.
Today is a decorating video.
I know so many of you are here for the decorating and here lately I just have not been in that
decorating mood.
I really have enjoyed my home being a little simple during the springtime.
We've had lots of extra company here lately and so we have just been kind of doing summer
Sunday resets because the house always needs a good reset and just some yard work and things
like that.
But I've got to get in the summer decorating mood again.
I did add some strawberry touches to my kitchen.
I'll link those videos below if you've missed them and I'm just loving the way my kitchen
and dining room is looking.
I have picked up a few new pieces that I'm going to add so be looking for that video
also maybe next Sunday.
Sorry if you can hear the dishwasher.
But today, it's early Saturday morning, I'm sipping on some coffee.
Love this little coffee mug.
Hello Saturday, I love you.
We all love our Saturdays, especially if you're like me and you still work an 8-5 job outside
of the house.
So really, I have two full-time jobs.
I have this YouTube channel and I have my full-time 8-5 job, but I wouldn't trade for
anything.
God has blessed us with such a great life.
So today's video, we're going to be adding some summer touches to my living room.
Not a whole lot.
I've got some thrifted pieces to add, a couple of new pieces to add, and I'll link all that
I can down below in my description box.
Of course, always comment to me if you need a link to something and I'll be happy to give
it to you.
So, without further ado, I'm going to first show you with maybe some before shots of just
my spring living room.
It's very simple right now.
And then I'll show you some things that we're going to be decorating with.
And then let's just add a few summer pieces into our living room, give it a little bit
more of a summer vibe in here.
I'm going to put something summery on the television, open the blinds, let the sunshine
come through because it is a bright, sunshiny summer day today here in Texas.
But again, I'm so glad you're here, friends.
Go ahead and hit that thumbs up button for me if you would.
Subscribe if you haven't already.
And let's get right into the video.
Okay.
And again, I'm so sorry if you can hear the dishwasher in the back.
So I just laid out just a few things that are new that I haven't showed you guys before,
I don't think.
But I will be bringing in some other pieces that I already had to add to the living room
today.
But just a few things like, I think I might have showed this when Charlotte and I went
to Magnolia in Waco, Texas.
This is a flower press book.
I mainly bought it because of this green.
It is beautiful.
I'm sorry, guys.
Let me go pause my dishwasher just for a second.
Okay.
Let's try this again.
And it tells you how to use it.
So you gather your plant and then it goes in between this book.
It's got these rubber bands that keep it tightly closed.
And there's really thick paper in there and you put your little flower in between those
pages and press it for like four to six weeks.
So I'm going to put this on my bookcase for now until I actually use it.
Maybe I'll do a little short or a little Instagram showing when I do press some flowers.
But I thought this was just beautiful.
And then a couple of more things that I picked up at Magnolia when we were there was this
beautiful little canister that's going to look so good on my bookshelf.
And then this little match set.
Isn't that adorable?
They had some more blue and white pieces too, but I didn't want to buy too much and go over
my budget.
But I am so excited to use these two little pieces.
Okay.
And then one thing that I thrifted was this beautiful, the cotton cottage garden.
I love this so much.
I think it's going to look really good on the coffee table.
And I think I got this for like $6 at Amazing Grace in my hometown.
But I loved this coffee book table.
It's going to look really good.
Add a little color to the coffee table.
And then this, guys, I'll link it below.
I'll try to find the website that I got it off of.
This is going to go on the end of one of my couches and it holds your remote.
Let me turn it around, hang on.
Look how pretty it is.
Does that not scream summer or what?
It goes over like the arm of your couch.
Oh my goodness.
Let me give you a close up.
I saw these online.
I got one for summer and then I got one that has mushrooms on it for fall.
I know a lot of you out there do not like that I use mushrooms, but I have a little
bit of a vintage mushroom collection and I like to use that for fall.
So I also have one of these that has mushrooms on it, but isn't this precious?
And here's where your little remotes go, maybe a little magazine.
I am so excited to use this on one of the couches.
Now this is something, I know it's a rabbit, but I had to get this.
There's a website online called Home Decor Steals.
I think these were half off.
These were originally $30 and they were half off, so I got it for $15, but this is going
to look really good on top of a book, maybe like that, on the coffee table.
So I'm just dying to get this out.
I know bunnies are mainly for spring, but this one's going to be here all summer long.
And then summer florals, I picked up this from Target just yesterday for like $6.
I'm going to put some little planters that are bookends on my bookshelf and I think that's
going to go in one of those little stands.
And then here is my blue florals that I picked up from Hobby Lobby.
I showed that in a previous video.
Those are going to go into my living room for my summer stems.
And y'all, look at this.
Isn't that beautiful?
I picked this up at, if you're local, I picked this up at Hickson Company Antiques in our
hometown.
It looks so real.
I think I paid $40 for it, but it is so worth it.
This is going to look really good on my mantle.
It's going to add a great touch of summer to the living room and I love the black pot
that it's in, so I cannot wait to get that on the mantle, or on the hearth.
Then I picked this up, y'all, this is probably six weeks old.
I got this from TJ Maxx.
I love diffusers because the grandkids, I can't have a lot of candles going when they're
here, but I think this is going to look beautiful on the mantle.
It's citrus tide is the smell, so I'm hoping it smells as good as it sounds.
And then this is just another faux plant that I think I'm going to put on the mantle, a
little bit more greenery.
And then, let's see, I picked this up just yesterday at Target.
It's going to be a candle that probably might change out one of the candles on my side tables.
And again, I can't do a lot of candles because of the grandkids, but it's okay.
I like to have them when they're not here and this one smells so good, again from Target.
Then, these came from Amazon last year, these little battery operated candles.
I am a floral girl through and through, and so I picked these up again last year from
Amazon and then just ran off batteries and I got a set of three.
I got a new tray on the fireplace and I think these are going to look really good there
on the hearth.
And then the last thing I picked up is this beautiful blue mop pilla from Target.
I'll link it below, but it's going to add a great little cottage feel into the living
room.
Okay, now that I've kind of showed you a few things I'm going to be decorating with, again,
I'm going to pull in some pieces that I've already had probably.
Let's get to decorating.
When I'm home alone, one of my favorite things to do is just put something on the television
that kind of matches the vibe that I'm in.
So today I just wanted a really pretty summer theme on the television, plus it allows you
guys not to just look at this big black screen while I'm filming today, because that doesn't
really help the aesthetics of this video, so I just have a simple summer theme on the
television.
I'm going to open the blinds, let some natural light in, and guys, during this video today
I'm going to be doing a little bit of light dusting, light cleaning.
As you can see, my living room is rather large, and I just don't take the time to dust and
clean as good as I need to.
I really need a deep cleaning.
I need to pull this chair and a half away from the window, clean this huge picture window,
clean behind the television, take everything off the hearth and give it a good sweeping.
I really need to do some deep summer cleaning here in the living room, but today's not that
video.
Today we're just going to kind of decorate each area in this living room, and then I'm
just going to dust, maybe wipe down any mirrors that I have here, but again, just do some
light cleaning as I'm decorating today.
And since I am going to be doing quite a bit of cleaning today, I'll most likely title
this video, Clean and Decorate With Me.
I know I have a lot of people that come to this channel just for my decorating ideas
and I appreciate you guys so much, and you don't really come here for cleaning.
A lot of you don't even like to watch someone clean their house, and I get that also.
However, sometimes I just need to throw a little bit of cleaning along with my decorating,
so I hope you'll stay with me to the end, even though I'm going to do a little bit of
dusting and a little bit of cleaning as I'm decorating the living room.
I've been going with a more cottage feel in the living room.
I love, love, love that Nancy Meyers aesthetic.
Oh my goodness, if I could take everything out of my home and start over, and if I had
the money, I would definitely go with more of a Nancy Meyers cottage feel throughout
my house.
That aesthetic is so warm and inviting and just pure coziness to me.
I love it so much.
One of my favorite movies is It's Complicated, and our home that's by the shore is just decorated
so greatly.
I would love to have like maybe some bookcases on the fireplace just to kind of have a little
book area coz I know that the Nancy Meyers aesthetic has lots of bookcases and lots of
books, and I really don't have anything like that in my home, but I would love to somehow
do some type of built-ins that has a place for me to put books here in the living room.
That's another time, another day, definitely not this video, but that would be something
I would love to do.
Okay, so enough talking about the Nancy Meyers.
I do love that, so I try really hard to kind of bring in that feel into our home because
as you can see, when you walk in the front door, you walk into the living room, you walk
right into the dining room.
It's a whole open concept, and so I definitely want to make my guests and family feel invited
as soon as they come in.
I tend to decorate this living room with some modern pieces and some thrifted pieces.
I have been trying to convince Derek to get new furniture.
I had a company reach out to me about a week or so back and asking about me demonstrating
one of their couches, one of their sofas, and so we get, as YouTubers, we get people
that reach out to us for sponsorships pretty often.
I don't take a lot of sponsorship videos, but I do like to take things that I really
need, and I would love to have a new loveseat and sofa.
So I sent back a response, let them know what I would take for a collaboration, and trying
to get a couch and a sofa.
So fingers crossed, if that comes through, maybe by August, September, we can get new
furniture in the living room.
So I'm very, very excited about that.
Again, I don't take a lot of sponsorships, but every now and then someone will reach
out to me and I just cannot pass it up.
So say a prayer for me, I hope that comes through, but anyway, we'll talk more about
that later.
So now that I've got the little blue and white pillow here on the couch, I'm like, I don't
know if I really like that in the middle or not.
I'm a terrible arranger of pillows.
I just cannot ever make it look the way I want it to look.
So I didn't like it there, so I thought, okay, let me try it over in this chair and a half.
Again, that little blue pillow came from Target, and so did this cute little round green pillow.
I love it for spring and summer.
It is super duper cute.
So we're going to put the little green pillow on the couch, and then we'll put this blue
pillow on the chair and a half.
And you'll see here in a second that I do think it works great here on this chair and
a half.
If you've been with me a while, this chair and a half in ottoman is probably 20 years
old, guys.
It was a dark brown like the couch, and my friend Sheila redone it, reupholstered it.
I picked out some fabric from Hobby Lobby, and look how gorgeous she is.
I just love her so, so, so much.
I keep her scotch-guarded on a regular basis because we have so many grandchildren, but
I just really think it brightens up the living room, and I just love it so much.
But here you can see, yes, definitely this blue mat pillow goes perfectly here over on
my chair and a half.
Okay, now let's work on my coffee table.
This coffee table came from my friend Charlotte.
Her and her husband David have a mercantile kind of trade days here in our little hometown,
and a lot of my items in my house came from her.
I bought this for $20, and it had like a dark stain on it, and then I had a friend kind
of sand down that darkness and make it a little lighter, and I absolutely love it.
It goes really well with my side tables, so I love decorating this little coffee table.
The details on it is absolutely adorable, and again, I love mixing that more modern
stuff with some thrifted items.
Just makes it, I don't know, maybe adds a little bit more charm into the living room.
I love it.
We're going to start with just some items that I wanted to use that were already here,
and then we'll bring in some of my thrifted items.
This little doily, of course, is thrifted, and I think, y'all, by the time I get through
with this coffee table, pretty much everything but maybe this candle and this little magnifying
mirror that I showed you a while ago are maybe the only new things on this table, so that's
pretty neat.
I had a friend tell me in one of my decorating videos, I think when I did my summer hutch,
she was like, Robin, I really like it when you show us how you decorate something, like
taking things away and adding things and moving things around to get it just right.
So I thought, okay, this is the perfect time for this coffee table.
I'll do that.
I'll kind of show y'all the way I like to decorate areas.
I'll bring in the stuff that I think I want to use, and then I'll just kind of, again,
add, take away, add, take away, move things around, just the way my brain works.
Very, very seldom can I just sit down and decorate an area, you know, and get it right
the first time, so that's what we're going to do here.
You're just going to see me play around with these items until I feel like I have it just
right.
Okay, I did kind of speed this up just a little just to kind of get through this little part.
I did try to keep this video pretty low-key, very cozy.
I didn't speed up very many of the parts just so you guys can enjoy it a lot better, but
let me know in the comments section which item here on this coffee table ended up being
your favorite.
The kitty cat is definitely my favorite.
Okay, now that we have the TV area dusted, it really needed it badly, we're going to
move over to my fireplace area.
Again, I really need to take everything off the fireplace.
My favorite thing to do to clean the fireplace is take everything off the fireplace, get
my broom, and just start sweeping, you know, the wall, sweeping the hearth, and getting
all those cobwebs down.
I know you can't see them here, but the deer really get a lot of cobwebs, and their little
horns, and then, of course, lots of spiders here in Texas over in the corners of the baseboards.
I really have to stay on top of that, so my favorite thing to do is once I sweep down
my fireplace, I'll take, like, my spin mop, and then I'll go around the top of the trim
in the living room and use that spin mop wet and clean the baseboards, or the top, not
the baseboards, I guess the baseboards are the bottom, clean the top trim in the living
room.
So, let me know in the comments section, do you want to see a deep cleaning video of how
I actually deep clean this living room, because I can do it.
Just let me know.
Okay, so now, again, we're going to continue with those white flowers.
I had them out for spring.
They came from Hobby Lobby, and all I did was add in some blue stems from Hobby Lobby.
I did the same thing, as you noticed, over by my chair and a half, and I think that combination
of that blue and white looks really good for summertime.
And I'm just going to add a few more of my blue and white pieces here on the mantel.
Now, I didn't do anything to the right of the mantel.
I do have some blue candlesticks that I could have changed out in my Magnolia Home candlesticks,
but I didn't get that done in today's video.
And then I also have some little wicker, what are those things called, lampshades that could
go there on my little sconces.
I didn't get those changed out today either.
There was a lot of things I didn't get to do in today's video, because as I was decorating,
the kids showed up to go swimming, so I had to cut the video a little short, but that's
okay.
I love when my family shows up and wants to be at the house.
But there are some more things, again, that I didn't get done today that I'll get done
in my next video.
Okay, so all I'm going to do is just add in, again, my blue and white pieces.
I added that Magnolia coffee table book just to kind of give a little height to my drifted
plant and my cute little blue and white canister that came from Magnolia.
Really, I've got candlesticks here that came from Magnolia.
I've got that little blue and white canister that came from Magnolia.
I love Magnolia.
I have so many of her items in the living room.
The boxes toward the end down there, those green and white boxes, I think those came
from Amazon.
If they did, I'll link them below.
They're like fake books.
And then that little clock there came from Target.
This swan picture is a thrifted item, and I absolutely love it so, so much.
You're going to see it all during spring, and you're going to see it all, well, you
saw it all during spring, and you're going to see it all during summer.
Okay, now let's work on the hearth area.
I have a lot of people question why I have those blankets there in that little basket
and that little pillow.
It's a little bit for decor, but mainly for blankets for the kids to use when the kids
and grandkids are over.
I keep it pretty cold in my house, so everybody always needs to throw blankets.
That's just the best way I have found to kind of have a little extra blankets or to have
some extra blankets in the living room.
And that little basket that I have it in came from Walmart, I believe.
So all I'm going to do is use that little white thrifted tray that I picked up from,
let's see, that tray and that pink, is that a hydrangea or is that, I'm thinking that's
another plant.
I'm sure Charlotte will tell me in the comment section what that plant is, but I picked up
both of those items from our local Hicks & Company here in Lufkin.
So if you have not been downtown to Hicks & Company's Antique, you've got to go in there.
They have new and old items and I got both of those items there.
Okay, so I'm going to add back in my plants and we're going to be through with the hearth.
These battery operated candles are just beautiful, but they're really great at nighttime when
all the lights are off.
I love having these on and even though it's summertime.
I still love having this little fireplace place burning.
It's electric fireplace that I got off of Tik Tok.
There's the option to turn the heat off so you can just have the fire burning for the
aesthetics and it is so, so pretty.
So there's lots of times I'm in here by myself at night with all the lights off with that
fireplace going and it's just so cozy.
So we're going to end with just a couple of after shots.
I love the way everything turned out.
Again, there's some things I didn't get done today and that'll be in another video.
If you're new today, please consider subscribing before you leave.
Maybe hit that thumbs up button for me.
I've had my channel for about seven years now married to my husband Derek.
We have eight grandbabies.
We live in Texas, born and raised.
I work a full-time job outside of the house and I have this full-time YouTube channel
that I absolutely love.
God has so blessed me with this wonderful channel that just keeps growing and growing.
Again, we're almost at 21,000 subscribers.
So if you'd like to help me meet that goal, be sure you're subscribed.
Double check that you're subscribed because sometimes YouTube unsubscribes people.
So make sure you've hit that red subscribe button and that you are subscribed to my channel.
I would greatly appreciate it.
And so these after shots are so, so pretty.
I love it when my house is in order.
Everything is in its place.
It just makes for a great night when the house is picked up and everything's decorated.
And I need some suggestions.
As you can see, this mantel is painted a dark gray, but it has lots of little nicks on it.
It really needs to be repainted.
Should I repaint that the same color it is now, that dark gray?
Or should I paint it maybe the agreeable gray, which is the color of my living room?
Or would you paint it cream?
I'd love to know in the comment section what color you think I should paint it.
Now here is a bookcase that I did not get to today.
I really wanted to decorate that today, but I didn't have time.
I do have a lot of new and thrifted items to add to this bookcase to give it more of
a summer feel.
So be sure you come back for more decorating.
I may just do like a separate video by itself of me styling that bookcase and giving you
maybe different ideas of how to style a bookcase.
Okay, friends, again, thanks for hanging out with me to the very end.
I appreciate you guys.
I love you guys.
And I'll see y'all in the next video.
Bye, friends.
