yourself or someone else, family often comes up so it's very good to know how to talk about it,
and this will be very helpful as we go through the course.
The word for family in Spanish is familia. This is feminine as it's ending in a, so
Let's go through down the tree and learn the vocabulary.
To say mother or father, the words are madre, padre, so it's very similar words.
It starts with M for mother, whereas here it's starting with P for father.
To say son or daughter would be hijo or hija, so it's the same word but if it ends in O
then it's for son, whereas if it ends in a then it's for a daughter, so hijo and hija.
The word for brother or sister is hermano or hermana. You can see the same pattern here,
so we have hermano for brother and hermana for sister.
To say grandfather or grandmother, the words are abuelo and abuela.
Once again we have a very nice pairing here.
Now let's use the vocabulary and build some simple sentences.
How would you say he's my brother? Es mi hermano.
She's my sister. Es mi hermana.
It's my family. Es mi familia.
She's my mum and she's very important to me.
Here instead of to me, they would say for me.
Try to say it. Es mi madre y es muy importante para mi.
How would you ask, is she your sister? Es tu hermana?
Is he your son? Es tu hijo?
The word for kind in Spanish is amable, amable.
How would you say, my sister is kind? Mi hermana es amable.
My brother is not so kind. Mi hermano no es tan amable.
Is it your dad or your mum? Es tu padre o tu madre.
He's my grandfather. Es mi abuelo.
She's my daughter and she's very special. Es mi hija y es muy especial.
The word for intelligent in Spanish is very similar.
Inteligente.
How would you say, my son is intelligent? Mi hijo es inteligente.
To say quite in Spanish, the word is bastante, bastante.
Now say, my brother is quite intelligent. Mi hermano es bastante inteligente.
My family is very big. Mi familia es muy grande.
She's my grandmother and she's very kind. Es mi abuela y es muy amable.
