You don't want to forget where you came from and where you want to go.
Sometimes, in the minutiae of all the plans that we make and all the goals that we have
and all of the planning that we're doing, we start to lose sight of what we were actually
trying to accomplish. How often do we begin something that ends up changing somewhere
in the middle, whether the point is exactly in the middle or somewhere to the one side of the line?
So many forces and influences are out there, so many pressures to conform, to adjust,
give way, support, amend, accept, et cetera, that we are pushed and pulled in a magnitude
of directions. So re-centering on purpose, revisiting our overarching mission or our
vision is crucial to staying on that pathway. Without periodically checking in and adjusting
our trajectory, we will probably end up somewhere we didn't intend, much like how the pilot of an
or the autopilot, as the flight continues, so we routinely reach out, reach our compass
location on the map. It's interesting to think how critical it is that our compass and map are
lined up so we can go forward and arrive at that destination. It's critical that we establish a
protocol, a process for this re-centering so that it happens as frequently as is necessary
while taking into account that certainly stressful situations could require additional
refocusing attention. These processes could be as simple as a recurring weekly appointment with
yourself to review your long-range goals, your mission statement, your personal vision,
or a reconnection with your higher power. For many of us, this reconnection happens on Sundays
or in a weekly meeting where we reconnect with the divine in ourselves. Anyway, re-centering
on our ultimate purpose periodically is absolutely essential to maintaining a productive
direction in our lives. Now, the purpose accomplishment often comes in fits and
spurts. As we've reconnected with our purpose and established a bunch of goals and individual
steps moving toward our creative outcome, what now? Up to now, we've discussed mostly the process,
mental design, and creation of our goals and long-term outcomes,
and planned out the steps that are necessary to accomplish these goals and processes.
We have planned the work. Next, we need to work the plan. It's important to realize that no plan
ever goes exactly as planned. Plans change. Obstacles are encountered. Headwinds and
tailwinds and sidewinds are frequent. These adjustments become from an external source
that will require us to improvise and adjust on the fly. We have to be willing to take the good
with the bad and keep moving forward. There are many attempts before one's success, and much like
life comes in fits and spurts, so does success, accomplishment, creation. There will be periods
of time when no improvement is made at all, and despite an intense focus on goals and plans and
purposes, sometimes nothing improves for a very long time. Then all of a sudden, a major step
forward may happen in an unexpected way. This is the fits and spurts method of growth. We have to
realize this will happen and be willing to be patient during those time periods of non-growth
and challenge. As we look and are patient, we can look forward to the time zone growth that will
happen while maintaining a circumspect consideration of our current status. Be patient as you grow in
fits and spurts and stumbles. There will be a time when growth actually takes place.
