Welcome back. Summer is a busy travel season, definitely in full swing from
people traveling to the cabin, of course, but also hopping flights
overseas this week alone. A lot of insider travel information coming to
light. Join us now from Thrifty Traveler is Gunner Olson. Gunner, as always, good
to see you. Good to see you. Tell us about this Delta rolling out this new
option this week. It's it's a little confusing. There's kind of a catch to
it. Just explain it for us. Yeah, so Delta has basically put these
basic fares on all of their fare classes now, including all the way up
to Delta one business class. And what that basically means is the things that
you used to get included, like seat selection or the ability to make
changes for free on those highest level fares. Uh, they're gonna sell you a
fair below that now, and it's called basic. And what Delta is essentially
doing here is they're asking you to pay up for things that you used to get
included, like seat selection and like, you know, changing and canceling your
flight. So we don't care for this move very much. I think it's rather annoying,
and they're just kind of nickel and diming customers, especially customers
who are paying a lot of money for those fancy seats in first class and premium
select and all the way in the front of the plane, too. So it's just they're
kind of segmenting their cabin a little bit more. Yeah, that's really
interesting. It's definitely something to think about as you're trying to, you
know, plan your flight. I mean, I have kids. I can't really have us all
sitting in different spots. I have to get us together and apparently pay
appropriately and make sure I make the right selection rather than just
looking for the cheapest option. Talk about just the overall prices because
gas prices that we know everything going on with with Iran and the state
of her moves and how what you're seeing as far as overall prices for our
flights right now. Yeah, airfare is definitely still up overall. But if you
look closely and if you look in the right places, there are starting to be
some cracks in the wall here. I think airfare is gonna start to come down
very soon, and we've already seen it start to move in some places in
particular. If you're looking at those domestic flights, you need to go down
to Kansas City to your cousin's wedding. That's where you're gonna pay a lot
more than usual for your flight. But if you want to go, for instance, from
Minneapolis to Iceland sometime late this summer or this fall, you can find
airfare for $395 round trip. That's probably about the same as you pay to
go to Kansas City. So right now, the flights to Europe are actually coming
down. So if you're willing to look big and think big, you can get some good
value on airfare right now. But as of right now, the domestic flights are
still so expensive, and we're hoping that as we get a little later into the
summer and into fall, we're gonna see those flight prices come down. But
yeah, there's a little bit of pain out there right now, especially if you're
gonna fly Thursday or Sunday. Aim for the middle of the week Tuesday,
Wednesday, and there might be some good value for you. Okay, and we're basically
out of time, but really quick because, you know, some people might be starting
to plan or already planned their M. E. A. Break and purchasing those flights.
What are we looking at for those? Yeah, for M. E. A. Break, I would say if you
can book something right now that's flexible that you can maybe change
later if the price drops, that's what I would do because airfare is hopefully
gonna come down this fall. So I would book something flexible and maybe
change it later if you see that price drop and book it on a Tuesday or
Wednesday. Gunner Olson from 30 traveler. Thank you. Good advice.
Appreciate it. Of course.
