Ling Chi is back with a delightful lesson inspired by the Poppy Lesson in Ning Yeh's ABC of Chinese Painting. She paints this composition on a Semi-Sized Pre-Mounted Mulberry style paper with a natural color and visible fibers. These pre-mounted papers are ready for presentation or framing as soon as the painting is dry. No need for the traditional wet mounting process!

This is Ling Chi, brush painting for beginners from Oriental Art Supply. Today we're going to use
the subject is poppy on semi-sized pre-mounted board.
This one that we don't have to mount it so after you paint it you're ready to present it.
The book we are using is ABC of Chinese Painting. The cover is a poppy and I'm going to do a little
bit different version of it but the composition the leaves are very similar. The color I'm using
is the bright light so I will talk about all different colors how I mix them
as I go along. The brush I'm using is our two double happiness the small one and then the
large one. The reason we call it double happiness is because you can use it for brush painting as
well as calligraphy. So it's a very versatile brush and both have very good tips and then
bass bottle ink and the main color I'm doing a purple poppy the main color is black from
bright light purple and sakura white so this is my base flower
color and then on the palette I have purple with black yellow with a little vermilion
and vermilion with a little yellow so they don't they are not too sharp and this is a dark green
so more indigo than yellow this is a light green is um more yellow and indigo and then indigo and
then this is the center of the leaves I'm going to use which is crimson and rouge so without
too much explanation now we're going to do the center of the flower so I also did a sample here
which is more close to the cover of ABC is a it's a orange flower and then today we're going to do a
purple so first I'm using the small double happiness I load this yellow that I pre-mixed with
with vermilion and indigo so first I'm going to do the center of my flower
so and then I'm using the same brush tip a little bit light green and then for the base
of the center and then on the top I'm you wash off the color on my brush and then I'm going to use the
vermilion to accent so the semi-sized paper allowed me to fool around with it after I
paint it and then I'm going to use this large double happiness for my flower majority time
so I'm going to do the I tip with the sakura white with the dark purple mix
and then I'm going to do okay and then I have the now I'm tipping the dark purple
I'm going to add a little ink to all right and then the next flower is underneath here
looking that way looking to the right so I'm using my small double happiness again
and then I'm going to use them to do this the center is going to be it determine
how my flower is going to look so this center is toward that way and a little light green
and then the orange vermilion all right so the second flower is a little smaller than the first
one so you can see them because of the semi-size so the color is going to puddle up a little bit
so dark purple all right so then I'm rinsing off my big brush you you can use the small brush for
the calyx as well as them but I'm going to use the large one for me so then light green
underneath the flower for the flower holder and then I'm going to go and then the other one
and then on the other side I'm going to do a light green with dark green and then
rinse the tip off with this carmine and crimson I have mixed for my um
bud dark green and a little bit blue and a little ink on the top okay and I'm going to do this
all right now I'm going to build a leaf for my composition so I'm start with light green
and rinse the tip off with a little bit crimson and carmine mixed so light green carmine so
light green with a dark green and then light green with a little indigo and I'm going to do
dark green little carmine dark green with indigo and a little ink so the bottom
of the leaves is a little bit darker because you want to grind ground the plant and then
this side okay and then dark green with a little ink so when when the color stop puddling up for
because of the semi-size you just smooth it lift to finish it up so then I will use some
my little happy uh double happiness and to do some connection with the so then this I finished
my composition for this purple iris on semi-sized pre-mounted board and the other one is the orange
happy painting see you next time
