Traversing Traver Peak, McNamee Peak, Clinton Peak and Wheeler Mountain
I hiked and traversed four 13ers near Breckenridge, Colorado, in early June 2026, going from Traver Peak to McNamee Peak to Clinton Peak and over to Wheeler Mountain. Everything up to the first three peaks was easy class 1 and class 2 walking. From Clinton to Wheeler, the traverse got much more exciting with some class 3 scrambling along the narrow ridge and up to the summit.
Only two of these four peaks are ranked (meaning they have at least 300 feet of prominence from the next-highest peak). Traver (13,856 feet/4223 meters) and McNamee (13,784 ft/4201m) are unranked, while Clinton (13,866 ft/4226m) and Wheeler (13,698 ft/4175) are both ranked. They are located in the Tenmile and Mosquito Ranges and accessed from the Montgomery Reservoir trailhead.
These peaks also overlook the Climax Molybdenum Mine at the top of Fremont Pass near Leadville.
