EYST1779: Bridging the Past and Future in Gyeongju through the 'House of Choi

The 'House of Choi,' a historically significant residence in Gyeongju, has been transformed into a foundation with the aim of connecting the past and the future. This project involved the conversion of the sole western-style building at the entrance of Gyeongju Gyo-dong Hanok Village into a café. The architectural concept, known as EYST1779, revolves around the enduring symbolism of brick, a material used throughout history and expected to persist in the future. Red bricks were chosen to complement the surrounding Hanoks and convey a strong presence.
