Slow Living in July in the Norwegian Countryside ☀️. It's our very first summer in our new coastal house, and we are intentionally choosing a slow, cozy summer at home.
For me, making the season extra cozy means putting my feet up and finally diving into some good books. In this vlog, I’m also welcoming some beautiful, surprise decades-old yellow roses that just bloomed in our garden, and sitting down for a simple, slow sewing project. Using a gorgeous thrifted blue-and-white coastal bedsheet, I’m making elastic book straps to protect the spines of my vintage books when they're in my bag.🧵🪡

It's July again, and the southeast coast of Norway is suddenly buzzing with people.
Normally is this place a quiet corner of the world, but when high summer season kicks in,
then it's rather the opposite. There are people everywhere having a great time,
enjoying their time off. The ocean is flooded with boats that are heading out to the smaller islands
to enjoy swimming in the sea and sunbathing on deck. You can hear music and people barbecuing
all around you. The evenings are long and can be enjoyed far into the night.
This year, I've decided I would like to have a cosy summer at home, since it's the first summer
in this house and our twins are still babies. To make the season extra cosy, I have plans to
Two of the books I'm planning to read is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen,
a classic I've never read, and a book about the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen
that I found in a flea market that is almost 100 years old.
There is something so fascinating with reading old historical books.
Flipping through fragile pages of a book that perhaps is not available for most people anymore,
seeing the kind of language and description they used a century ago,
makes you realise how fast the world moves, and that history can easily be forgotten.
To our surprise, when late June arrived, these wonderful yellow roses sprung out in our garden.
We're guessing that they must be many decades old, planted by one of the previous owners.
They had the most amazing smell, and I had to bring some of them in to also enjoy them in the
living room. We're planning to take well care of them in the years to come, so we can look forward
to them springing out every summer. Last weekend, I went to a thrift shop and bought this old blue
and white bed sheet, the perfect pattern for a coastal home. I was planning to use it for
different sewing projects, and today I'm doing the first one. To take care of my old books,
I wanted to make them an elastic strap that can keep them safe from some of the potential damage.
I tend to ruin my books with adding them to my bag, and then to have other items destroying them
with pushing the book open. The intention with the strap is therefore to keep the book closed,
and to also give some protection to the spine.
As the sun sets, the smell of the roses are filling the living room, the teapot is ready
to serve an evening tea, and I'm ready to get cosy and start one of my books for the summer.
Thank you for being here. Until next time, take care.
you
