Mitch McConnell has not been seen publicly for weeks after emergency dispatch audio reportedly referenced CPR and cardiac arrest, and his office still will not give a clear answer about his condition. With Kentucky’s replacement rules creating an August 3rd deadline that could determine whether a special election happens, the silence around McConnell’s Senate seat has become impossible to separate from politics. He deserves dignity and privacy as an 84-year-old man who may be seriously ill, but Kentuckians also deserve to know whether one of their two Senate votes is actually being represented.
