The MTA is moving forward with plans to make several subway stations here in our borough more accessible.
News 12's Melissa Rose Cooper spoke with riders who say the upgrades are long overdue.
For many Brooklynites, the notion of subway is a normal part of their routine.
But for some riders, getting in and out of the station isn't always easy.
That's a problem for me. See, I'm trying to navigate the stairs right now.
So that's a problem. So when I go in the system, I would like an elevator. I would use an elevator if it's afforded to me.
But plans are now in the works to make that happen.
The station is set to get not just one, but three elevators as part of the MTA's plan to make subway stations more accessible.
I think it's an awesome thing because people have disabilities and they can't take the steps, so elevators are great.
The MTA says funding for the upgrades is possible thanks to $15 billion received through congestion pricing.
Nostrand Ave is one of five Brooklyn stations chosen for accessibility upgrades.

So, yeah, these are all kind of like not physical disabilities, but disabilities to a lifestyle.
Older people with a cane, you know, things like that for sure.
The Neptune Avenue F, 18th Avenue N and Fort Hamilton Parkway stations are also set to receive upgrades.
The MTA is accepting requests for proposals from qualified design firms through September 14th.
