This year's event featured a \"Parade of Patriots\" with historical and cultural figures, a reading of the Declaration of Independence, and a 75-piece marching band, all aimed at teaching children about America's founding values.
Okay, so it being July 6th, we have got to talk about July 4th and our annual 4th of July
celebration, our Independence Day party as we have it every year. Let me tell you that it started
big. We always celebrated July 4th, of course, like everybody, but we started going big on this
the year after George Floyd. We were in this dark, dark period in America where half the
country seemed to be dumping on the United States at every turn, seeing absolutely no
redeeming qualities, looking at police and lying about them at every turn. And in my family, we
said, forget this. We're not going along with this. We're going to celebrate Independence Day, America
and by the way, cops. So we held a big 4th of July celebration, like very big. We hired Daniel
Rodriguez, the singing policeman who sang the national anthem after 9-11 and brought everybody
to tears at one of the World Series games. We did a reenactment of the Declaration of
Independence. We read it in a bridged version because it's very long, actually, and everyone
loved it. All of our neighbors and our friends loved it, just loved to be reminded of the real
story of America and the reason we celebrate in a way no one else does. No one celebrates their
founding like we do in the United States of America. Our founding is so special. The geniuses
who drafted our founding documents were special, were geniuses. They were young. I think Thomas
Jefferson was 33 when he drafted the Declaration of Independence, arguing with John Adams over
who should do it, but John Adams did not think that he was likable enough to be the author of
such an important document and he thought T.J. was a better writer. So Jefferson did it and a
tradition was born in our family and in our neighborhood and amongst our friends and now
it's just grown and grown and grown and this year we went really big because it was our 250th
birthday. So normally what we do is, as you probably know by now if you've been following
this little saga in our family, is we all dress up in colonial wear. Some of the costumes I own,
some we rent and now the costume place knows every year which was good because this year others
wanted to rent the costumes but we had gotten in good. They knew we had a standing order
so we got our costumes and we do an abridged reading of the Declaration. We typically do a
little play. It's fun. We have like Thomas Paine represented. We have the King of England there.
He's the villain. We have little kids playing both revolutionaries and British soldiers and
we really lean in. This year we didn't do the play. We just did the abridged reading because
we added something else to kick off the party which I called our parade of patriots and we
started with the country's founding. I'm going to show you some pictures here but we started with
the country's founding. This is all our friends and some family members enacting the various parts.
Christopher Columbus appeared at our parade of patriots. My friend kept calling it the parade
dead people. No, that's not it. It's the parade of patriots. Here's our friend Christopher
Columbus on this stage that we had constructed in our backyard that looked amazing. It was like
the American flag and it read America's 250th. We had Christopher Columbus and then we went
through the decades. We had Abe Lincoln show. We had pilgrims show up and a friend of ours emceed
the whole event and talked about why we were seeing pilgrims. By the way, that's Ed Gillespie
who ran for Virginia governor as a Republican and almost made it. Gosh, it would have been so much
better if he had won. His wife Kathy, who's a daughter of the American Revolution, they
beclowned themselves in shame last week. She was on the right side of that vote where they decided
that men could become part of the Daughters of Revolution. In any event, sorry, Kath, for that
loss but thank you for fighting the good fight. We had the pilgrims. We had Abraham Lincoln. We had
Elvis, the king, managed to get hit. This was a tough booking, let me tell you, but we got the
king to show up. We had Susan B. Anthony to represent the suffragists. We had Amelia Earhart
here. Look at Amelia. She took the stage with her arms spread wide and pretended to fly. We had the
Wright brothers show up. Look at this. We had Sandra Day O'Connor. Here's the Wright brothers,
Orville and Wilbur, first in flight at Kitty Hawk. We had Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O'Connor
and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It was a bipartisan event, my friends. We had General Douglas MacArthur,
who saw us through World War II, war hero, show up with his corncob pipe and his authentic
MacArthur hat. He was a big hit with the members of the military who were also represented,
the four branches, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, with the little kids who were there saluting
on stage. They would later change clothes and get into their colonial gear. There was an outfit
change for many folks there. We had a little play unfold between Marilyn Monroe, JFK, and Jackie
Kennedy, which was very funny, where Marilyn showed up looking absolutely fabulous. And then when the
former president and first lady took the stage, Marilyn bombed onto the stage and tried to
interfere with their relationship. The parts were played perfectly as our friend playing Jackie
tried to drag JFK off the stage, and Marilyn tried to insert herself in that relationship in a way
that we all found inappropriate, Marilyn. Shame, shame, but we understand you were damaged,
though talented. Audrey Hepburn showed up in her Breakfast at Tiffany's wear, looking absolutely
stunning with the full black gloves up the arms. She looked amazing with her little tiara and her
Breakfast at Tiffany's necklaces. We had, there she is, yes, Audrey, forever classy and timeless.
Neil Armstrong made the party. That was also a tough booking. Neil Armstrong came out there in
his full uniform with his helmet and everything, and I saw him and said, I've been, I've been,
Neil. Yeah, like Gail, Maureen, Sarah, and I have been, we understand exactly what you did.
You and Buzz, who also showed up, we were honored to have them both. Steve Jobs, Steve Jobs actually
showed up with his laptop and his iPhone. Let me tell you, the Steve Jobs costume was among,
I provided these costumes to everybody, which was what I've been doing in my spare time,
but Steve Jobs showed up there. Let me tell you something, they don't make wigs that have the
close cut, like balding head of hair, you know, where like you're kind of having the receding
hairline and the sides still have some hair on them. So it was a challenge. I got a wig that
had much longer locks and we had to cut it super close. I actually did a little haircut on the wig.
We cut it super close and our friend Colin wore my handmade wig, the Steve Jobs mock turtleneck,
the jeans and went out there with the laptop. He was great. We had John Wayne who made an
appearance. You got to have John Wayne out there with his sheriff gear and his gun.
We had Sirius XM's own Dave Goreb there. He's been there a couple years in a row,
who loves our part of the Jersey Shore as the Babe. Babe Ruth went out there and he even did
a left-handed bat and then did switch hitting because I guess Babe did both, called a shot with
the bat. True Babe Ruth style, appreciated having him there. And last but not least, we closed out
our Parade of Patriots with the person who really brought us together more than any other over the
past six to 10 years. And I speak, of course, of Tiger King. That was a series that the whole
nation watched during COVID. That was so fun and interesting. And our friend John played Tiger King
with the stuffed tiger. Everyone had a laugh. And then after the Parade of Patriots, guys,
we had a quick outfit change. We all donned our 1776 costumes. We did our abridged reading
of the Declaration, which always brings a tear. Honestly, it's just so meaningful.
And then this is only half of our colonial members in a group picture. Everyone was having such a
good time watching a marching band that we only managed to cobble together a bit of the group,
but you get the feel for how it looked. And then the marching band came out and they were amazing.
We had a 75-piece marching band show up. And I tell you, when they come down the street
and they are playing those drums and they break into the national anthem and everyone sings it,
you get a chill down your spine and a surge of patriotism through your body that must be what
it feels like to be on the receiving end of some sort of electric current that doesn't kill you,
but instead inspires and makes you weep. It was amazing. They did such a beautiful job.
They played all patriotic music and all the guests sang along. Public singing with a group
of people is church-like in the feeling it gives you and the shared values it reminds you of.
And when it's about the beauty of America, from sea to shining sea, so much more.
So that was our celebration, you guys. And I have to say it was incredibly meaningful to me,
to my family. We love doing this, especially for the kids. All the parents and the grandparents,
they all say that to us, like, thank you so much for our children, for reminding them what this
holiday is really about. Fireworks are great and beautiful and bring their own sort of reverence
for the country when you take in their majesty. But just to be reminded of how it all got started
and what a special, special experiment they started in this country 250 years ago.
And they signed that declaration and declared that it is our right, it is our obligation
to throw over a government that no longer answers to its people, that all men are entitled to the
pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's a good reminder of what's special
about us versus everyone else. The day ended with a bunch of friends sitting around and,
you know, we ordered pizza. We did serve some food at the event, but you know how it is,
you never eat the people who are participating, doing all these outfit changes. And I'm so
grateful to our friends and family for doing it. They never complain. And even our new people who,
you know, a gal I don't know that well, but who I really love lives down the street.
She dressed up as Susan B. Anthony. She was hilarious. She did a great job. We all just sort
of came together at the end, some of us, like the Corps, who do it every year. We had pizza. We,
you know, came down from the high of the day and talked about our friendship and the traditions
and so on. It's just always so meaningful to me. And that's me and Doug there. Doug is TJ.
I just dress up as generic colonial lady watching the band, swaying to the music. And, you know,
I just, I love my Duggar and I love my family, my friends. I'm so grateful to them all for
participating in this and giving us such a special shared experience. The weekend ended
as it always does, which is the family in the church pews at our Catholic church. And they've
been doing this every year since I can remember. And it's so special. I did remember this year to
take out my phone and record it. I didn't show any of our fellow parishioners because it's not
appropriate, but I got the audio on my iPhone, which I just pointed down at the pew. As this
happened at the end of the church service, the last thing before the mass had ended,
and we all said, thanks be to God. And then the following broke out.
What more could you ask for? Happy birthday, America. God bless you. My home sweet home.

For the first time since World War II, our national debt has exceeded the gross domestic product.
America's reckless government spending keeps catching up with us. Higher inflation,
higher prices, higher cost of living expenses, and higher interest payments on the national debt.
Every dollar Washington spends on interest is a dollar it has to tax, borrow, or print.
