Faceting Gemstones: Cutting A Huge Gem 2
Jul 6, 2026
Watch as i cut my biggest gemstone yet. Im cutting boro silicate glass in a round shape. The finished gem is 368 carats and 48 mm in diameter. Warning: this material could be hazardous to your health when being cut .
The cutting laps i used were as follows 100, 260, 360, 600, 1200 grit plated diamond laps. The prepolish laps were lightning lap resin 3000, and 8000 grits. I also used a zinc gearloose lap with 3000 diamond. The polish laps used were lightning lap cerium oxide and aluminum oxide laps, and gearloose creamway lap.
being this material is glass and a hardness of 5.5, i had some problems in getting scratch free polished facets at times.
