Vietnam A Cinematic Travel Film Nikon Z8

A few months ago, ‪@nikonusa‬ asked me to make something epic with the Nikon Z8, which they sent me. Since I was planning to go back to my birth country of Vietnam to see family...I thought it was a good opportunity to go around the country, capture my experiences and cut up a cinematic travel film - while testing the camera's video capabilities. This video is an accumulation of my experiences traveling around Vietnam for ten days–from the bustling cities of Ho Chi Minh City & Hanoi to natural beauties of Hoa Lư to the city of the first Vietnamese in Phú Thọ to the famous Hạ Long Bay. I wanted to capture more but it was monsoon season-raining 90% of the time. It was much trickier to work around the conditions but it definitely gave a much different look to the footage. My only regret is not staying longer. The journey was unforgettable and I met so many amazing people along the way. Can’t wait to visit the homeland again, soon!

Most of the footage was shot in 24fps or 120fps, hand-held with the occasional tripod for timelapses or a gimbal for steady shots. Aerial footage was all filmed on ProRes RAW on the Nikon Z8, which allowed me to get so much more dynamic range than smaller sensored drones. Big shootout to the cine-lifting drone team, Viet-Fly Cam for allowing me to fly such a ridiculous setup!
