They highlight the capabilities of the Navy's F-A-18 Super Hornets and F-35 Lightning II jets, reflecting on the \"sound of freedom,\" the skill of the pilots, and the role of military superiority as a global deterrent.
You know, and one of the things that we often forget,
and I remember struggling with this when I was a child,
first learning this magnificent history from family members,
but also from school, but mainly from family members,
celebrating the 4th of July.
The men and women who took up arms against a king,
against a tyrant, they had been British subjects
living in America for generations, for 150 years.
It is all they knew, it's all their parents knew,
their grandparents, it's all their great-grandparents knew.
And the courage, the guts, the wisdom it took for them
to say, you know what, everything that I have known
and my grandparents have known,
we are going to set aside for something better.
I wanna give you a live look here over the Washington Mall.
You're seeing this massive flyover that's happening.
This, guys, is the Navy's elite fighters right there
going over our heads right now.
F-A-18EF Super Hornets.
They're followed by the F-35 Lightning II,
the Joint Strike Fighters.
You can see they're in formation there
with two aircrafts there.
This is the backbone of what Navy aircraft carriers carry
as a threat to any enemy, many of them obviously stationed
out in the Gulf, in the Middle East now,
but this is the threat that we have
that is matched by none on the planet.
We have the most fierce capable air fighting superiority
in the nation, and it's flying over the Mall now.
So I grew up an Air Force brat.
That's sort of like the soundtrack of my life,
of my childhood here.
Your perfume, jet fumes.
I went to many air shows as a kid.
My father would say, listen up, Rachel.
You hear that?
That's the sound of freedom.
And it absolutely is the sound of freedom.
And these men and women who fly these,
look at the acrobatics they do in the air.
It just, it makes us so proud of our nation,
of our military, and the power we have to defend ourselves,
which is really the primary purpose
of our government to defend us.
And as they call our aircraft carriers,
it's 100,000 tons, 100,000 tons of diplomacy.
Yeah, absolutely.
And when you have 12 of them keeping the trade routes
free and open around the world,
it gives us a lot of benefits
that we should be grateful for every day.
And when you see an F-A-18 EF fighter Super Hornet,
which is what I believe we're looking at right here,
coming your way, you are not going to win.
You are not going to overcome their superiority
when they take to the skies,
because these specific Super Hornets can do air-to-air combat
or they can go on sorties, fly missions.
I just wanted to say something real quick.
There's so many things I love about Griff.
Well, one of the things I love about Griff,
he actually knows what he's talking about
when he talks about this,
but also it takes a lot of guts
to sit on national television
and test your trivia knowledge about this,
because there are millions of Americans
sitting around right now watching,
and they know whether what you just said,
was it right?
Could you have called the exact name correctly or not?
There are Navy air fighters,
and I'm sure Air Force guys as well,
like talking, well, he didn't get this,
or he didn't get that.
But you know what?
I've been there.
I've been on those carriers when they've taken off.
I've been there when they came back
from successful missions.
But I love that we're taking a look now,
because there've been so many,
I mean, there's like hundreds of aircraft
over hours and hours flying over all day.
These particularly were worth pointing out,
because our F-18s and our F-35s are just,
nothing matches it.
This is the fiercest thing we have in the air
to throw at our would-be enemies,
in a great deterrent.
President Trump talks about peace through strength.
You're watching strength right there.
They're also just really cool.
I've been talking to a lot of the FIFA fans
who are swarming our country,
and we love them all.
And they just can't believe, you know,
one, how gorgeous our stadiums are.
By the way, I've heard people saying,
FIFA should be here, every World Cup should be here,
because they love our beautiful stadiums.
And they love these flyovers
that have also been happening over games.
And they're just so impressive, so.
You know, what's really also cool about this is,
this is not just your regular flyover
that you get at a stadium.
This is a full-on air show.
Yeah, absolutely.
They are not just like, you know,
coming from the distance
and then disappearing in the distance.
They are flying around the mall
for all those people who are gathered there,
and they're getting a real show here.
You've been up in the air in a jet.
You know what it's like to pull these.
I flew one, Griff.
Yeah.
How many Gs were you pulling?
Look at that.
We pulled nine plus Gs.
But, and you know, in all seriousness,
I really do think that, like,
if I were Elon Musk and the world's first trillionaire,
I would start a program to allow every single American
who wants to fly in one of these jets,
start a program so that everybody
can fly in one of these things.
Because however much in awe you are
in our country of this technology,
and in the men and women who fly these things,
it is, when you go up with one of these guys or gals
and do the flips and do the turns,
and then land, especially, most importantly,
land safely back on Earth,
it is, it's truly awe-inspiring.
Yeah.
That's Super Hornet right there.
I think we've seen some single-seaters
and some two-seaters,
but the maneuvers that they're pulling off
over that crowd down there on the mall,
they just must be speechless.
Yeah, the spectacle over Washington, D.C. right now,
and it's been happening all day.
We've been hearing it from where I was staying
this afternoon.
All day long, we're hearing it,
and people are just watching, impressed,
and proud of America on 250 years.
That's the sound of freedom.
And I'm so glad you mentioned the sound, too,
because, literally, look how tight he's pulling that turn
as he goes over, and that looks like
that could be a two-seater.
These are all Super Hornets, FAA-18 Super Hornets,
but, you know, to put on this sort of scale and display,
this is a young man or woman that, many years ago
in their youth, decided,
I want to do the things it takes to be able to do that.
But if you talk about what freedom probably feels like,
as Charlie knows, as a pilot now,
with his full 9Gs, nothing feels like freedom
like being in a jet going that fast
and pulling those maneuvers.
Yeah, and I remember actually going down the runway,
and the guy is like,
so you want to do an unrestricted climb?
And I was like, yeah, sure, that sounds good.
I don't know what that is, but that sounds perfectly fine.
And then the next thing you know,
you're going literally straight up in the air
for whatever, you know, a mile,
and then you turn upside down.
I just remember loving putting on the flight suit
and feeling really cool and fashionable.
And then the-
They're very slimy, whether you like it or not.
And then the thing goes over, the hood thing goes,
yeah, the canopy comes up, comes over,
and all of a sudden he's like 200 miles an hour,
300, 400, 800 miles an hour.
I was like, oh my God, it's too late.
And I had to just sit back and try and enjoy the ride.
And it was incredible, but I did get a little nauseous.
And I also pulled 9Gs, which was pretty awesome.
For all of us, because we're roughly the same age,
and obviously when we were young, Top Gun,
the original Top Gun with Tom Cruise was such a classic.
And it really was, you know,
the Hollywood version of these brave,
amazing, talented pilots' lives.
And everybody saw that.
I had not one, but two high school friends
from my high school class in Memphis
that went on to be Air Force pilots.
Well, of course, and of course the great blue sky
is the last frontier.
