
ISS Timelapse - Southeast Asia by Night (20 Jun 2026)

These are two nighttime flyovers over Southeast Asia; due to the absence of the Moon, not many surface details are visible, but we can identify several types of "illumination":
that of city lights;
that of the colored lamps on fishing vessels, used to attract various fish species;
the "stroboscopic" flashes of lightning;
that caused by sunlight reflecting off the many low Earth orbit satellites;
that of orbital sunrise (particularly in the second sequence, which continues for a few seconds into daylight).
Be careful not to mistake the camera sensor's hot pixels (static bright dots) for actual stars, which instead move in accordance with the #ISS's motion.
The sequences are sped up about 10 times compared to the actual speed of the Station.
