Conductor Michael Seal commands the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Antonin Dvořák's much-loved 'New World Symphony', filmed for Sky Arts at the Royal Albert Hall as part of Classic FM Live. Inspired by the Czech composer's reaction to seeing America for the first time, and imbued with the musical traditions of Native Americans and African-American spirituals, the second movement, 'Largo', takes on a nostalgic mood, conjuring images of sweeping, desolate prairies, distant ice-capped mountains, and - in the UK at least - a certain brand of bread...
